Hi we currently have diesel he is just over one year and we are thinking of gettin another conpanion for him ( he's getting sick of the cat he's too boring lol) but we were thinking of maybe rescueing one. Has anyone rescued there second husky? How did they settle in? I don't know how hard it wud be to find a rescue that wud be suitable as we need one that's good with cats and my son who's 4. Or our other option is to get a puppy? Do u find that they are happier with a companion and is it harder with 2? Diesels pretty much a doddle, but when I mention to people about I'm thinking of gettin another one they think I'm slighty mad ( these are non-doggy people tho!! Thanks for any advise in advance :) x

Funny you should post this question, our second and third Siberians were rescues. Our first rescue, Dakota, was a year old and if you look through the picture posts called Our Dakota, you will see his story and how he came into our lives with having Sasha that we got at 8 weeks old. She was a year when Dakota entered her life. We would say, depending on the conditions of the rescued Siberian and that they give the true profile if they have it. You can then make a decision if it will suit your home with cat and children. Puppies are so cute, but there are so many young dogs who need a "Fur-ever" home and it sounds like you are a family that would so qualify. Best of luck on a second Siberian, the more the better the breed does. They love living in a pack and that includes the family.

Hi I rescued Wolf a 2.5 year old male when Sky was 1.5, he very under weight, very low self esteem, untrusting of people and un socialised with dogs. It is great that you are considering rescuing but you need to know what might be involved. I dont want to scare you but when I brought wolf home he jumped 2 fences and killed the family rabbit, He has now turned out to be a really good dog with a great nature, he just kills fluffy things. Even with a rehome of a ballanced husky the cat could be seen as fair game one day. But like you we are all nuts, I am getting my third soon but this time it is a pup as Wolf is still a bit of a work in progress. 2 is better than 1 defo:) and thats how it starts.

Thankyou both for your advice, the year and abit we have had diesel has been one of the best years of my life, don't get me wrong its been tough in places but I wundent swap it for the world and he's turned into a lovely lad. He only likes our cat if he sees another one on the street he pulls to get at it lol so maybe with some work if we were to bring another in they wud learn to see it as there own. I have just seen so many huskies on rescues sights and I think its very sad that there not in a lovely warm home with a family that loves them, I've actually just noticed that there's a 6 month husky girl in a rescue that's just come in near my end its too late to ring now but will try tomoro. We've just got into scootering with diesel eveyday weekend aswell so we really think we can give a dog a second chance at happiness, I guess we will just see how it goes. X

Huskies like to be part of a pack. All three of ours are rescues. Andy had 4 homes before us...and he lost his original because he killed a cat...and he was nearly 5 years old. We don't know if it was a resident or not. Jack was neglected, as was Jessy, and now all three are spoiled rotten, and love each other dearly, as we do them. There are many huskies that need homes, and there's no guarantee that Diesel won't one day turn on the cat...it's prey in their eyes...small, fluffy, fast, and annoying. So my vote is for another husky, and a rescue!:lovebone::lovebone::lovebone:

My first two, Dakota and Juneau, were from breeders...my third addition (non-husky) was a Rescue after a week he settled right in like he had always been a part of this family, Diamond our 4th was a bit more of a transition only because of the isolation we had to keep her in after the surgery, Timber (non-husky) our 5th took a bit of time to get him to adjust but he was so poorly socialized he needed some major rehabilitation (that I was aware of and willing to take on), Tikaani (non-husky) just stepped right into our lives without any adjustment period, Aspen was from a breeder (non-husky) planned to be an agility partner and trail dog eventually, Denali was a breeder purchase he is my conformation dog, and Riley was found on the road taken in as a "found" dog that never was spoken for...he's still adjusting to not climbing the fence but gets along very well with everyone!

My suggestion is keep rescue as your first option for companion animals, every dog deserves a second chance :) Most rescues will allow a "meeting period" for your current family pets to be sure the fit is right for everyone :) Good luck!

oh gosh I'm SOO excited for you :D keep in mind that there are no two dogs that is exactly the same. I think it'd be slightly hard to look for a rescue that loves both cats and kids.. bcoz most huskies don't get along with cats x) once u bring your lovely new rescue home, don't let the cat come near her for a lil' while.. Keep the cat confined for... a few days, maybe? Idk I don't have a cat you should ask somebody else xD but just to prevent anything bad from happening, never leave the cat and the new dog alone in the same room unattended :) have fun with your second! ;)

my 1st was a puppy . the 2nd 3 months later was a 3 yr old rescue followed by 18 month later was an 8mth old rescue and then a further 19months later a 3 yr old rescue in dec last year.. all mine have settled well. i would suggest a rescue to anyone because there is so many in foster homes waiting for there forever home.

Mine are all rescues. Odin was the most difficult with the cats... but it was curiosity more than anything. Within 2 months he adjusted fully and is OK with the cats. Keep in mind I keep my cats separate from the dogs and they're only together when i'm with them. It's just not worth the risk. You can find cat friendly rescues but be sure to give it a trial before signing away on the adoption. Just because a Husky was OK with it's previous owners cats does NOT mean it'll be OK with yours. Mishka is fine with all my cats but other cats are fair game and she does chase them.

Caution needs to always be taken, no matter what.
