Vaccinating to be on "the safe side" is a bit of an odd way to think about it when we know for a fact Yearly vaccination is unnecessary and over vaccination is dangerous.

The only reason we vaccinate yearly is because vets wanted a way to keep people coming in for yearly check ups. It's not based on any science or proof that immunity only lasts for 12 months.

I vaccinate yearly with a dog that is out showing a lot, who knows what he gets exposed to while out with other unknown dogs. I do know he brought kennel cough home and it got our shepherd mixes and our aussie girl....the Siberians never showed symptoms but I did medicate them all anyway. with 10 dogs it's not just a hassle it's an epidemic.
