basketcase687
We have to try and avoid other dogs.Ours act as a pack and off lead they can be quite intimidating.Sassy is good with other dogs, but Thunder is wary,Mystie unpredictable and dominant (she was attacked by another dog when she was 11 months old ,she was just being playful but he got aggressive with her)and Lycan doesn't like any dogs until he gets to know them(having him neutered didn't help,as his aggression is fuelled by fear and not testosterone) It's easy to say we should have socialised them more as pups, but when you have 4 that's difficult to do.We have a few dogs they walk with regularly(all huskies) and they are fine with them but where we live and walk them they don't encounter many strange dogs.I think on their own they might be different, but I just can't walk them all separately. So for us it's a case of keeping them to themselves. Bec
Mine is a special case because he acts happy and excited when he sees other puppies (mines 3 months) but as soon as they get close and either approach/sniff him his tail goes down and he runs away and even barks at them. I don't understand him. HELP? Lurio I really think you need to sign up to a training class with your pup ASAP. There is a limit on how helpful a forum can be, I can tell you are committed to your pup and I really think going to training will help you. Emma
Bear leaps at other dogs and head grabs them with both paws. She gets very excited and loves to play with any dog she sees, which is not always appropriate. Ice runs over but stands a small distance away sniffing the air between them. He did play very nicely with my neighbours female husky last night, much more confident with familiar dogs.
PoBD
Moro "puffs" up, tail up, trying to be dominant....if the other dogs don't do the same he wants to play. He has calmed down some since he was fixed. He's always super excited to see other dogs, I'm just not 100% on if its a good or bad thing at the time...he never growls or snaps... just hyper hyper tail up
Bec
I think whether it is a good or bad thing comes down to what you want for your dog. I don't think it's a good thing to have a dog with a high value for other dogs, I think it effects their obedience and reliability and I also think that dogs that are over excited can be rude to other dogs and can cause a negative reaction from another dog. Some people like that their dogs value other dogs and want to play more than anything else, whereas some people (like myself) like to have dogs that value nothing more than the owner and the rewards the owners have to offer. Lucas
Lucas acts like Tigger on a pogo stick, whether the other dog is scared, aggressive or playful!!!! He wants to jump all over them and play. The funny thing is that when he sees a dog approaching, he will lie down and wait and refuse to move, before going mental!!!!! We have been standing on his lead and trying to keep his attention on us. He is just as excited with joggers!!!! lol
sharloid
I'm glad to hear it's not just ours that gets a little excited when he meets another dog! He acted the total opposite and camp though, and just sat there!
kerry_lapworth
Raya didn't get along with other dogs and I would worry when taking her on walks, but she was great at camp!! There were one or two dogs she didn't like but the rest she was fine with and played with. I am SO happy as I think we both made such great progress. It was amazing to come away from camp beaming with pride over my little girl. More socialisation and walks will equal a happier Raya and a very happy fur-mum !! Chip
On walks if Storm notices another dog she'll go straight into a sit and sit there with all her energy focused on what this 'new' dog is doing and if it's coming closer, when they come to say hi she always goes straight alongside the new dog for a sniff and then she decides what she makes of it, most times she just sniffs and licks and pulls like hell to stay with the new dog and on occasion she'll play bow and jump around, with bigger dogs however she likes to sit and wait until they've had first sniff and they are in charge of that meet, larger dog she normally gets on with and small dogs only some are acceptable in her mind. Shadow i'm still learning about, he hasn't had the chance to meet many other dogs on our walks and most walk away when they see and hear him barking, I still find it hard to pinpoint his behaviour round other dogs, if he's being playful, nice, nasty, dominant but there is one I know he can meet and that's a chocolate lab who is so peaceful and patient she even put up with him flitting around and barking. And we have no dog parks round here:( so yet to experience that Here's a short vid from the other day, was a rare chance we had the field to ourselves when we arrived but that lasted all of 2 minutes when a couple with an offlead collie turned up and allowed him to run riot and caused Storm & Shadow to react, Storm is waiting for the collie to come close while Shadow just jumps around and barks at him, any ideas what Shadow's behaviour is, i.e. playful, dominant, etc? (Shadow's the one on the left btw) QHh4UPXPn4o
