knwilk44
Hi all. I'm acquiring our newest husky later and she has AKC papers, but I know absolutely nothing about bloodlines, so I'm going to post a link to her page with pictures and I'll also post a link to her pedigree. http://pawvillage.com/pedigree/pedigree.asp?ID=EN6M0AGSX0 the link to the pedigree If anyone can tell me anything at all about her pedigree, I'd love to hear it. Also, tell me what you think about her. I haven't met her in person yet, but I'm so looking forward to falling in love again. I'll be posting pics of her in a little while once I get her home. HuskyMom09
Unfortunately I missed the link to pictures, but I see nothing in the bloodlines at all. Probably just a hobby breeder that hasn't done anything more with their dogs. Are you able to go to the breeders and physically put eyes on how they keep and raise their dogs? Elyse
sutsibe 's a breeder, she might know.
sutsibe
No, I'm sorry - there are no recognizable kennel names of any show or working breeders in the pedigree, so as Lani suggested, it probably is just a hobby breeder. Have both parents had their eyes and hips checked and certified as normal? The breeder should be able to provide certificates, showing that the parents' eyes have been proven to be 'normal' by a veterinary ophthalmologist (usually, but not always recorded by either the Siberian Husky Club of America or CERF - Canine Eye Research Foundation) and that their hips have been x-rayed by a veterinarian and certified as (preferably) 'good' or 'excellent' by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). It's a good idea to get a puppy whose parents HAVE had these tests done, as there is some incidence of hip dysplasia and various genetic eye diseases, such as juvenile cataracts, in the breed. Juvenile cataracts usually are apparent in Siberians by around 9 months to a year, if I remember correctly, and can range from making it difficult to see, to total blindness, to total blindness and pain sufficient that the dog's eye(s) must be removed or the dog must be euthanized because of the pain... Glaucoma, which is also a genetic disease which can occur in Siberians, can also cause severe pain and blindness - which is why responsible breeders will check for it. These hereditary diseases - both of the eyes and hips - can sometimes, in milder cases, be helped with pain medications, but in more severe cases, will require surgeries, which are usually quite expensive, and generally must be done by specialists, often at veterinary schools... HuskyMom09
I'd want to see at least 3 generations of clear hips and eyes personally, but at MINIMUM the parents. And then at 1year have your puppies eyes tested, then again at two when you get the hips read.
knwilk44
The lady that I got her from is a breeder. She produces very nice pups and has raised my girl, Kayobi, from a pup. She's 4 years old, but for some reason was unable to breed successfully, therefore, the reason for her getting rid of her. I have absolutely no reason or want to breed her so that's not really important, but she will be going to my vet for a full checkup and work-over to get the a-okay from the vet stating she's healthy. She will also be getting spayed soon. She's a really nice tempered girl and gets along with other male dogs but she doesn't get along with other female dogs. Which, it isn't a problem for me since my other pup is a male and getting neutered as well. I was just curious about her lines to see if there were any recognizable dogs in it. One dog that stands out to me is that dog very very far back, White Fang XXIX or something like that. I was just wondering if maybe he was one of the dogs used back in the old White Fang film possibly. Didn't know if anyone would know that. Either way, her lines don't matter, just wanting to know if any special traits stand out in those lines and what I should expect from her based on her lines if they could be recognized. The breeder's dogs weren't advertised as having had their eyes and hips tested so I'm assuming that they haven't. Although, Kayobi's eyes are fine right now and she can see very clearly obviously. But, like I said, I'm going to have a work up done at the vet to make sure that she's in good health and if there is anything that I should expect down the line. HuskyMom09
The two dogs used in White Fang were Malamute crosses, so most likely not anything from this breeders lines if she's breeding purebred Huskies.
knwilk44
Oh, ok. Didn't know that about White Fang. There is a dog in the furthest back generation on her online pedigree that's name is White Fang XXIX. All of the breeder's dogs have AKC Siberian Husky papers, so there's no doubt of the purity lol. Maybe it was just a hobby breeder that had a dog that resembled White Fang or something. IDK I just found it interesting because it's one of my favorite dog movies. HuskyMom09
Yeah you'll get people naming their dogs after their favorite movie too. How many Balto's must be out there? None of them descend directly from the true Balto but I would bet they are out there
knwilk44
You are entirely right there lol I'll be getting some good pictures of her in the daylight tomorrow and hopefully posting them here.
