ICE & SHADOW
we are looking into rescuing s Husky from a shelter. His tail seems shorter than most Huskies I've see. Its not long enough to curl. Has anyone seen this on a Husky. P.S. That is not a deciding factor lol, just not what I was expecting to see. Hyshqa
Could it possibly have been docked?
ICE & SHADOW
Possible I guess...the white tip through me off, as it looked normal.... not the dog, but the tail looked just like this one.
Chip
Hmmm, It does seem shorter than you'd expect, perhaps the mother chewed it by mistake while chewing the umbilical cord?
ICE & SHADOW
again, thats not the exact dog. I just have never seen it, and was wondering if it was normal to happen to some Huskies... This dog was found and dropped off, so there is no history. incase y'all didnt see my thread in the main chat, this is the actual Husky
lovemysiberian
I would say it depends on the Sibe, my Taz had a tail just like the dog pictured. This is what it looked like curled: Never realized it was shorter than normal until I saw this post lol.. It always seemed very big to me! ICE & SHADOW
Well what made ask, is I had brought Ice to meet him, and there was like a 4 inch difference between the tails lol... maybe Ice has a long tail..haha
Cherrie-Nanook-Indy
I once met a guy who had 9 rescues and he said that some of his had chewed their own tail off (not all off) due to boardem / unhappiness - not sure how true this is as Iv never heard it before or since! Just an idea? Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner
lovemysiberian
Oh also, when I look at pics of him when he was younger, it seems more curled. I wonder if it has to do with age? These are younger photos of him (bad quality, from the '90s lol) from his previous owners:
ICE & SHADOW
Oh also, when I look at pics of him when he was younger, it seems more curled. I wonder if it has to do with age? Possible as Ice is still under 2 ( he was a rescue too so I dont know his true age) and this dog looks to be about 4-5 years old

Ravenwolf
If it's like the dog's in the photo, it could very well be that he lost part of his tail some how - it can be a pretty common injury. For the dog in the photo it is likely because the hair doesn't grow out to a point - the squared off appearance of the tail is because no hair grows on the amputated end. So you can tell by inspecting your dog's tail - part the hair to look at the very end. If there is hair growing over the entire thing, then he's just a weirdo with a short tail! But if you can see only bare skin on the entire top of his last tailbone then he likely had it lopped off - either via trauma or surgery (because of irreparable damage). mydiamond
agree with the others.. Some dogs chew their own tails due to boredom, some just born with a shorter tail than others x) when will you see him again? Go check on his tail and tell us what you see
SaraB
See page 13. Husky's tails are "supposed" to curl and are shorter than most curled tailed huskies. http://www.shca.org/pdfs-docs/1999_IS.pdf Below the fronts: http://www.shca.org/SHCA_IS_Fronts-Rears_Finals.html
khuskin
I once met a guy who had 9 rescues and he said that some of his had chewed their own tail off (not all off) due to boardem / unhappiness - not sure how true this is as Iv never heard it before or since! Just an idea? Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner This is what happened to our dog. He used to chew on the tip of his tail (probably out of boredom) when he was a puppy. We thought it was just a phase, which it was, but the damage seems to have been permanent. He is almost 7 and his tail is ridiculously short, probably 6-7 inches at best, not even a chance that it will ever curl.
simhauu
Ghost chewed his tail out of boredom too, stopped him everytime from it though. Just had a few shorter hairs on his tail. Not like when my rabbit ate half my parrot's tail. He's gorgeous, and I'm sure you'll have many people asking why his tail is short and not curly like it's known for huskies, the same way I get asked how come my husky is white.
