BOOM!!!!

When I was 15 I spent the summer up on the Mojave Desert, that's where the Edwards Air Force Base is, you know where they used to land the shuttle when it couldn't get in at Cape Canaveral. When I lived up there it was mostly a test base - we'd see these planes with red tail fins come over real low. Sometimes real slow and sometimes you saw them before you heard them - but when you heard them you *really* heard them. Yep, a sonic boom out of an apparently clear sky is enough to scare the "stuff" out of anyone!!

And that Typhoon looks wicked, am I correct that they have the same style of operation as a Harrier ( the ability to [almost] hover )?

Well, its good to see that the Brits have their stuff together for the Olympics. And Typhoon planes are just awesome..!

Oh no there not if you live close to RAF Northolt, which I do, where the things will be located for the duration of the Olympics. A few weeks ago they were doing some "test" flights and the noise was unbelievable. Also we get Spitfires flying overhead and sometimes Hurricanes if there is something going on at Buckingham Palace. Spitfires make an awful lot of noise for such a little plane, but nothing compared to the Typhoons.
