Sad news... Keyu and Diesel :(

I was gunna put this in the steam room but its not really a rant and I'm not angry so its here lol

Monday night Diesel attacked Keyusha, badly. It's the 3rd time in the last 10 days or so he's gone for her, no warning growls, no raised lips, just flown at her... Diesel is dog aggressive to dogs outside of our pack, but just recently he's started getting a bit funny with ours as well.

There was nothing there to fight over, no food, toys, nothing. We have no idea what set him off but this wasn't just handbags at dawn, this was with intent to do damage... He grabbed her throat, luckily OH was able to grab him quick, but he couldn't get him off, just hold his head still so he couldn't shake her, I had to dig my fingers hard into his groin to get him to let go.

It was incredibly bloody, you know in films when a throat is slit it sprays out? Well it was like that, it went 3ft up the walls and pooled onto the floor, me and OH (and keyu obviously) were covered, I thought he'd hit her jugular! OH put pressure on it with a dish towel while I called the emergency vets, who told us to bring her straight in.

Luckily it was only a small artery, not the main one, and it was deep puncture wounds, I hate to think what would have happened if OH wasn't so quick to grab him & he had been able to shake her. Vet said we were very lucky, the same puncture wound an inch lower could have killed her

I have no trust in Diesel any more, I could just about deal with his DA outside the house, but I can't have him attacking our own dogs, its not fair on them. We've decided we need to get him into a dog free home with owners who know how to deal with his dog aggression, or at least how to manage it. We'll be doing this with the help of a bully breed rescue, or he'll go to someone I know well who I think can manage (and who will update me if they are struggling, not just pass him on)

For now he is either crated or muzzled, especially if I'm home alone, had this happened while OH was at work I wouldn't have been able to get him off

Keyu has been a little star, she's still great with other dogs, we had her visit to the eye specialist in newmarket yesterday and she was fine with every dog she saw, which was a big relief :)

And an update on her eyes... vet thinks its likely to be glocoma, but they can't diagnose for definate until they see the eye reactions when they go funny, so we've been given some exercises to do if/when if next happens and we have to video it and show them. They can then decide to do further testing or to start treatment. She had over an hour of all sorts of tests and was an angel, vet said she was a credit to us and the breed & that her temperament is second to none  They also cleaned and wrapped her wounds...

Awww I'm so sorry to hear this happened. I agree that you are making the right call here. It's a shame some dogs are so agressive towards others. My best to you and yuor pack.

PS- Keyusha looks adorable in her bandage. What a sweet girl! I hope she recovers soon.

:grouphug: I'm glad Keyu is ok and hope she makes a full and complete recovery. You are fully right to rehome him as painful as it might be now both him and your pack deserve to be happy. That stress is not good for humans or dogs. As has been said to me several times things happen for a reason. You've given Diesel a jump start on getting his dog aggression sorted out by your own training methods. That might have been your role to show him there are good people that care about him and are willing to show him and society that he CAN be a good dog. Now he needs to find that forever home that will not only continue that training but also love him like no other. Consider yourself a stepping stone in his continued improved life and just know that his one true family will peek out of the cracks of society and say "there you are we've been looking for you" :)

Unable to put it any better without being redundant  I'm sorry this has happened and come to this, Sid :( I too have a DA that is a rescue, Sammy a Red Heeler, but he has not attacked our boy Czar Demon he just grumbles like a grouchy old man but will go for other male dogs, so I know where you are coming from there. You do what you have to to protect those whom you are responsible for, they put their trust in you and as their caretaker, you are doing the right thing, its very sad though and I truly hope he finds a great and loving home where he can be the only one and get all the attention, doesn't have to vie for it with other dogs and that he can be happy. I hope that the beautiful Keyu heals well :)
