aronoiiel
very interesting goes to show most dogs regardless of breed work better as watch dogs as opposed to guard dogs I am very impressed with the GSD at the end not a bite but definitely letting that guy know he is not welcomed and WILL be escorted out if need be Well done Major http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2012/05/beware-of-dog-hired-burglar-puts-pets-to-the-test/ Edited May 18, 2012 by aronoiiel

ICE & SHADOW
most house dogs are to spoiled to be agressive.... I'm hoping that my boys looks are good enough to scare off a burglar....once inside.....there goes my TV
Removed #5
I think most any dog that I've ever had would be likely to lead them to the jewel box!!
Elyse
Interesting read, thanks! Haha, Suka sounds like a huge scary dog when he's barking at the door, but when you open it up to answer the door his tag is wagging and he's smelling the person. I wouldn't be surprised if I was jumped one day, and Suka would just stand there watching! But, hopefully his appearance and the sound of his 'booming bark' is enough to scare any would-be-baddies away.
Sqwidge
See Eika doesn't bark, and I'm pretty sure she would go "hey guys, come on in...oh you want the telly, sure go ahead, you want the couch as well? Let me hold the door for you...anything else? Nope? Well have a good day, byeeeee!!!"
Ravenwolf
Not exactly a well-rounded study, but a fun way to get the point across: the average dog - even the guarding breeds - isn't going to attack a stranger in your house just because! Michelle Melsom
I wonder sometimes if leaving your dog untrained and letting it jump on people when they come in the house would help haha. Marius is completely useless he doesn't even bark when people come to the house or walk past it or anything. Ares my brothers GSD on the other hand is more like Major, he barks loud and he will go after ya I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and he let out a warning bark ^.^ Now all I have to do is get him trained to be in the house with the cats without trying to eat them :/
Paranormal Wolf
Awww the dogs are too cute lol. I've always wondered what my boys would do but I have an idea. Koopa is quiet he doesn't bark if people come around the house but he will whine if he's in his kennel lol but if he were lose and someone broke in he would most likely go to them tail wagging, jumping on them wanting to be petted. He's a big baby and loves people. Kuma is very shy around strangers and would mostly likely run away and hide somewhere, would watch from he kennel maybe. Tenchi my littlest pack member would bark and maybe even growl but would run away and hide.
Removed #2
I think from our pack Jack would be the only one to make noise, and then he'd lead them to the the cookie jar!!!
Rosemary
Very interesting The other evening when I had words with the little lost husky's Daddy, Ozzy became stressed and stood between us, pushing against my legs as if he was trying to push me backwards away from the 'man' - it was definitely not looking for attention behaviour - he was being protective. I did not expect that from him - there was no aggression but he was definitely on his guard, probably picking up on my agitation. I am not sure if we should work with him on this - I suppose we should, but it was sort of comforting at the same time. But I am 100% sure, that any unwelcome visitor to our home, while we are not there, will be made to feel very welcome by Ozzy & Micah both
aronoiiel
Interesting you should mention that Rosemary I was just thinking pets often put a high value on their fellow pack members and obviously don't have attachments to physical things like we do. So in theory if the "burglar" picked up a kid and tried to walk off with it then I think the dogs would feel more of a threat as opposed to him just rummaging in things that obviously hold no value to the dog. I think that alot of house dogs would protect their pack members far more than something that obviously provides no value to them and (in a lot of cases) actually ends up taking away attention from them. For example, I'm completely sure Kiana and Diesel would gift wrap and even help load up my tv and PS3 and Computer for whoever wanted it >_< Nevermind that I don't spend much time using any of them anymore but still it takes away from "pack time" so it has to go
mydiamond
Interesting comment down there in the video... This is not the best way to see what will your dog do when a burglar came in. Dogs can sense humans' emotions, unless the dog is naturally territorial or highly-trained, they won't attack someone who is clearly just pulling a prank on 'em As far as I know, any dog can be protective. If a real burglar came in and decided to kidnap me instead of stealing the TV, I know Diamond won't let it happen but if the burglar is more interested in my Kindle Fire or my bro's iPad Dime would happily assist him carry the stuffs LOL
