Val (Zebedee)
A bit of a delicate subject, but here goes! Kaviq got neutered in December, ever since he has had a discharge from his you-know-what! I've never had a male that has been neutered in my care, D was "done" before arrival! It is now 5 months on & he still has a little discharge. No smell (that I am aware of, but I'm fussy where I put my nose! ) and it doesn't bother him, but I'm still a bit concerned about it. It's not loads, just a bit. Any ideas what to do or is it a vet / antibiotics type job?
Hyshqa
Penile discharge after a neuter is quite normal, as it is beforehand, but if it looks like it could be pus then it could be an infection.
Val (Zebedee)
even after this length of time? When he was having his check ups, we were told it was ok, but didn't think it would last this long
Hyshqa
Males always produce a small amount of discharge, before and after neutering, so if it's not pus-like and it's not a massive amount then it's normal
Val (Zebedee)
thanks, Steph - previous to huskies, I had a male GSD for 13 yrs but never had this problem ... and D was ready "snipped" ! I'll monitor the situation for now & maybe when he goes for his needles tomorrow, I'll run it past the vet
Removed #5
thanks, Steph - previous to huskies, I had a male GSD for 13 yrs but never had this problem ... and D was ready "snipped" ! I'll monitor the situation for now & maybe when he goes for his needles tomorrow, I'll run it past the vet I think I would too. While most of my furry friends have been female, this just doesn't sound right to me. Avalanche, like (almost) all male dogs, licks - but I've never noticed any discharge there ( but like you, I tend to not examine that area too closely unless given cause ). ICE & SHADOW
if its clear, or milky looking then it's normal....usually before or after they get excited. if you don't notice it right away, then you will never know it happen once it dries. Val (Zebedee)
It is like a pale green watery liquid, not loads but always there. We did notice a few drops on the floor from time to time though this has largely stopped now.

Val (Zebedee)
Well apparently it could go on for months and the vet wasn't unduly concerned about it, so we'll leave well alone!
