Baby joy for zoo's smitten giraffes - Odd news | MSN News UK

some interesting facts:

Giraffe give birth standing up, requiring the newborn to fall just under 2 meters to the ground! Designed for such an abrupt entry into the world, a newborn calf can stand up and run within an hour of being born.

The average height at birth is just under 2 metres (6') with a tendency for the females to be very slightly smaller than the males.

A newborn calf weighs about 100kg.

All giraffes have dark brown eyes, except when a rare albino baby is born. An 'albino baby' would have 'pink' eyes.

Giraffes have exceptionally long tongues that are blue-black in colour.

An adult giraffe while at a 'cruising speed' will cover 15 feet with each long stride.
