Kpoulin
Hey everyone. My name is Kelsey, and I have become a new husky owner. My fiance Mike, and I got him from a family who had to give him up a couple days ago, and we have yet to come up with a good name for him. Hes two years old, soooo adorable! Snuggles like a champ, quiet as a mouse and curious as ever. Beautiful coat on him, but I live in Central Florida.. so I think he's "blowing" his coat right now, his shedding is rediculous. =p Anywho, If you guys had any good names like Russian or German ones for a boy =] or What does he look like? Mike says he looks like a Charlie? Buuuttt I think not =p And also, any tips on keeping the shedding at least under control? Every time i go to give him kisses, i have to go wash my face so i can breathe again without choking on dog fur =p.

Rosemary
Hi Kelsey, welcome to Husky Owners My two are both shedding at the moment so I can relate - hair everywhere. I suggest you invest in a Mikki Large Anti Tangle Undercoat rake - they are fantastic. I brush them twice a day, for about five minutes at a time - they will not stand still for longer than that. A warm bath also helps to loosen the undercoat, but be warned, the aftermath is crazy, and you will think there is no end to how much hair they have Once the undercoat is out, it's smooth sailing .......... until the next time. SA DA KA
Kelsey and ? First we would like to thank you for doing a Rescue/Re-Home. You will find you just got yourself one of the most amazing dogs that we feel you will ever own. Being a Siberian owner, you will find that you will need to take a good stock in a Vacuum company "Shed Happens" that is just one of the things you will learn to love about this breed. His fur will compliment your home, and all of your Couture. Two rules we have always followed and lived by is : Rule Number 1: You are always Alpha and Rule number 2, Never forget Rule Number 1. As far as names go, there are so many unique and wonderful names for this breed. You may want to go online and look up Russian or German Names. Here are some names we have not seen on HO and would stand out by having a different name: Akino, Okami, Glacier, Nakota, Ryka, Maliiak, Alue, Meeko. Enjoy your new Fur-iend. Elyse
Welcome to the pack! He's beautiful; looks a lot like my boy who is also a rescue. (Suka). What's his current name now? When I adopted Suka, I HATED that name with a passion...but his name eventually grew on me so I kept it. The only problem, is that people often mistake him for a female with that name (and it doesn't help that he's neutered, either!) Try looking through baby books or baby name websites. Oh, and, do you have any bigger pictures of him? For the shedding bit...I find developing a close bond (and getting a good one!) with your vacuum cleaner helps! As well as a few different kind of brushes...and willpower to actually brush him! EDIT: I've always like the names 'Troy', 'Thor' and 'Zeus' for GSDs...but they might not be suitable for a Sibe! jmscott
Welcome! as for the shedding, what type of food has he been on? It is true the Sibs are infamous for their own personal snow season, but improving the quality of food can help a lot.
Mazz
Welcome. As far as the hair issue, can't add any more. Sent from my HTC with forumrunner.
mydiamond
Welcome to our big husky family I heard there's this special shampoo made for heavy-shedders? Would help a bit, but just a bit best you can do is buy a vacuum cleaner just for him LOL oh and don't forget to brush him often Name suggestions: I'm not good at Russian/German names but I like Inuit names and norse gods names you know.. the Thor-Loki-Odin trio they always make a good name. But if you don't want something popular or common, try Inuit names such as Atka (guardian spirit), Desna (boss) or Saghani (raven) or a thousand other beautiful Inuit names good luck! EDIT: AttilaVikingsDemon would be the one to ask if you want a list of Russian names
jmscott
I didn't see it mentioned above, but remember to NEVER shave or cut his coat. Furminators can also cut those crucial guard hairs.
JBnab
Welcome and congrats on your new family member. He is very handsome! I found Zoya's name on a list of Russian baby names. I wanted something short but a bit different. My friend said...picture yourself at your door yelling "(insert name) come back!".
PnkFlyd204
Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest names, but all of mine are based on the awesomeness of how sexy certain male actors or musicians are. Hence why my boy isnamed Viggo.

Val (Zebedee)
Hiya Kelsy & Mike, welcome to the forum .... Well done on helping a needy husky find a furever home ... as for names, have you tried "Googling" Male Russian / German names for example. Try saying a few you like within earshot of your pup, if he responds, he's picked his own name!! Job done!
Austinville
Welcome. Choosing a name is sometimes the most difficult part of owning a husky........ Ok, I lied. It's adjusting to their humanistic qualities. (and perhaps the shedding! But as others have suggested keeping ahead of the battle by brushing, blowing, bathing and a good quality food will do wonders. May I also suggest that you become accustomed to everyone's favorite - husky hair as an accessory to every outfit. (Matches perfectly!) Kpoulin
Thank you all soo much!! =] Great advice! So i talked it over with Mike, and I think we found us a name: Nikoe [Nee-ko]. I chose the spelling like that cause I'm a huge dork and I wanted it to be kool. And the shedding, yes i have a brush, i wanna say its more like a comb lol but it does okay? and for a vaccum.. i dont have any carpet in the house, (so when he runs to fetch his toy he slips all over the place its kinda cute!) so should i still get a vaccum? I heard the shark ones are really good but im still afraid its just going to blow the fur all around the house anyways. As for food.. i feel SOOO bad! =[ since we got him a couple days ago.. he hasnt eatin anything.. I have no idea what food they were feeding him, (he seems a lil on the skinny side to me) But when we got him they gave us a BIG tub of it.. I feel likes its going to go to waste because he wont eat it. But i cant tell if its because hes still nervous? you know new house new people.. Mike seems to notice him stairing at us funny like hes thinking in his head.. "what are these people going to do to me?" Anywho i guess what im asking is whats the best brand for huskies? for their fur and such and one they like to eat to.. So far hes only ever eatin the treats that they gave us with him. and i KNOW hes hungry.. And for drinking hes cute but its a tad odd.. he takes a few sips and walks away.. but pants forever. We keep our house at 73 degrees, so maybe its not cool enough for him? Or hes too nervous to drink water too? I dont wanna screw up.. hes so cute and adorable and i know i can love him but i dont want anything to go wrong lol
LittleLuka
Totw is what most will recommend but honestly any grain free high quality is good. It's also what you can afford and what he seems to thrive on
