Siberianski Posted August 2, 2012 Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 We have just started taking our youngest to ring craft Cash has been abit tight and work commitments etc we have started taking her at 8months old, is this too late too get her ready too do a show in say 3 months time. Ideally they should start showing at 4-6months of age to get them used to the handling and expectations. Start with a cheaper leather lead and invest in the show collar metal snake chain preferred. If you are already going to the show grounds to watch you can usually find something you can purchase there vs trying to figure out what you think you'll need off of photos online. Siberianski Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 been honest not alot she is well socialised with other dogs she has done a puppy class and then the next class up with was the puppy foundation so all in all about 8weeks of training. in the uk puppies i think cant be shown till there 6months old I have been working on getting her to stand for the last 4 weeks and she is fine with people going over her she gets petted loads lol Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
HuskyMom09 Posted August 2, 2012 Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 Standing is fine, learning how to properly stack a dog is another, I'd strongly suggest a handling class for both your benefit as well as her's. Teaching her how to gait is another more important aspect of dog showing. sutsibe Posted August 2, 2012 Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 I usually prefer a very fine slip chain with a relatively thin nylon lead that blends in with the coat color of the dog I'm showing, but a martingale works well, too. You want to have one you can keep up high on the neck, behind the ears as much as possible, particularly when they're just learning, so you can guide them more effectively. and you want the collar and lead to blend in inconspicuously. We have a leather slip show lead and a snake chain lead. With a bit of practice it gets a lot easier. Siberianski Posted August 3, 2012 Author Report Share Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) She will stand but its getting her to do so without having a treat in her mouth and right in front of her nose that we are working on we hadnt really planned on showing our girl but so many people say she is a bonny pup our arm has kinda been twisted.
