Marc
Started one of these ages ago, but guess its seriously out of date these days as we have had members come and go over the past few years. So now I thought it would be a good time to start a new one. We all know on here people like to help each other. I know personally I have helped people with computers, and also had others help me with my car, moving things, building things, knowledge about things and more. So how about we see how we can help each other? Ya never know you might find someone in your area who can do something for you, that needs something you can do in return. Please ensure you tell us where you are. So I'll start. Here is the knowledge I have and Im in NW, UK: Computer Hardware - I know a fair amount about this, however I am primarily a software guy. Will generally have an idea and be able to point in the right direction even if its something I cant do myself. Computer Software - This I do know about. Primarily windows stuff (for now LOL) but can generally help with most issues. Software Development - I am a software developer by trade, so can generally help with pretty much anything. Accountancy - I am a part qualified accountant. So although not practicing at moment (and therefore out of date on some things), I do know the general rules & regulations of UK and European accountancy. I know a fair amount about personal taxation.

BlueWolf
Weird. I thought of posting the exact same thread earlier today I'm all the way in the Netherlands so it's not easy to physically meet each other. I live on the internet however so it shouldn't be hard to reach me, lol. Wouldn't say I'm an expert in all of them but when I think of a list of things I wouldn't mind helping people with/give support/advice for, then that list would be the following: Programming - I program in Python quite often and I also know html, css, Javascript and PHP and often build random sites. Video stuff - I film and edit stuff quite frequently. I've learned a lot about video stuff, video cameras, file formats, how to cope with them and all the tinny little tricks you can use to get the right shots. Both for the actual filming part as for the editing part. Photographing - Same as for the videos, you can ask me anything related to DSLRs. Camera functions, RAW files and other related things. Photoshopping (with GIMP) - Not same as the previous. Done some quite a useful and also strange editing with GIMP and I still do once in a while just because for the fun of it Linux - Though kind of uncommon to talk about here, it's worth adding to the list Familiar with Linux both on the desktop as on a server. Mostly Ubuntu for now though.
Removed #5
Well, seems as if we've got the technical crew responding mostly. PC Hardware relatively competent, I've been working with and around it since the early '70s Programming now odds and ends in Visual Basic, since I'm retired it's just a play toy. Made my living from the early 70's thru the 90's programming, primarily business apps in COBOL. Have done some C so I recognize it, some FORTRAN and some RPG & RPG II ( don't even ask - I won't touch it!! ) Jack of all trades and master of nothing! Everyone knows something that others don't. Marc, this is a great idea! Claire82 - since I've recently placed my mother in a home here in the states, I may just come cry on your shoulder and beg some information if you don't mind. Andy
I'm a Sequence Analyst at the BMW Mini factory in Oxford U.K. Sounds like something the FBI and CIA do but nothing so exciting I just sit in front of 6 PC's and make sure that everything is moving in it's correct sequence around the factory. Unfortunately this has no "Real world" applications outside of the job itself. I used to be a Projectionist ant the cinema. did that for nearly 20 years. (awesome job ) and was a Manager of a BP petrol station for a few years. If any of these jobs has experience you can draw upon feel free to ask. Photoshop I'm just about (barely) competent with Photoshop and can help with editing pictures or doing Photshoppy stuff to pics creating signature banners and things like that. Computer 'n' Stuff. I've been using therm since 1979 when I got my first commodore Vic 20. I've Built a few over the years for myself. however there are far more knowledgable peeps on here than me. Thankyou we're all really proud and amazed at how the Mini has recaptured the publics enthusiasm for the brand. I've been there for 12 years now Both on the line and in an office job. I was also there when it was Rover back in the 80's spot welding the shells together. (glad I'm not doing that any more . . . all done by robots now ) Edited August 6, 2012 by Andy
