Sarah
I took Dave back to the vet tonight to get his meds - they gave me Septrin Paediatric suspension for treating coccidia (a parasite he has) and also Xeno 50 for treating worms, i was told (and it's also on the label on the box) to give him 2 pipets orally and then another 2 in 2 weeks I read the box and it says on it that it's a SPOT ON! So a bit confused i googled before i gave him the meds - this is what i found.... Xeno 50-Mini is designed as a topical spot on for use on rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, ferrets and birds up to 800g bodyweight. Xeno 50-Mini is only for use on rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rodents and birds. Do not use on animals other than those indicated. Serious reactions including deaths have been reported in dogs (especially Collies, Old English Sheepdogs and related breeds), tortoises and turtles treated with the active substance. from this web site http://www.vet-medic.com/pdf/XENO2.pdf No correct me if i'm wrong - but to me this does NOT read like i should be giving this ORALLY to a BEARDED DRAGON! I'm calling the vets tomorrow but i've not given him the meds - this "specialist" vet got the dosage from a book after he weighed him so how if he has, could he have got this wrong! stormchaser09
I know absolutely nothing about bearded dragons so could be totaly wrong but when I kept lots of rabbits I gave them a treatment for hay mites which was actually licensed as a wormer/treatment for cattle and as such not for rabbits. But lots of breeders used it and the vet agreed to let me use it and it worked. With your beardy being an exotic it could be a treatment that they have found that worked for this condition. Sarah
true - i hope it is but will give them a bell tomorrow - other dragon owners have said they've always been prescribed pancure for worms and were worried about the description for this but better safe than sorry

stormchaser09
just googled the xeno 50 stuff (out of curiosity) and it contains invermectin (ivomec) this was the same stuff I used on my rabbits, but a few years ago it wasn't licensed for rabbits then. I used to give it to the rabbits diluted (remember the stuff I used was stronger for cattle) and direct by syringe into their mouths.
