Rosemary
I watched Men's Marathon and watched the runner - the 21 year old Ramonene from Lesotho come in last. Lesotho is a very, very small, but incredibly beautiful country in Southern Africa - they had 4 athletes participating in the Olympics. Ramonene was mentally and physically exhausted, but the spectators stayed on to cheer him all the way to the finish. It made me cry (again). Them being there for him, during the most difficult time of his race, must have made all the difference to a very, very tired young man, and gave him the strength to carry on. That is was the Olympics is about - it is not just about winning gold, but the journey along the way too, as well as the spectators who can make such a huge difference. Removed #5
Someone will win the Gold, but that also means that someone will be last. How the winner handles himself says just as much about them as a person as it does for the person who is last. They were there, they gave it their best and should be honoured for that as well! It also says a lot about the crowd that they were willing to stay and give him his due for the attempt! (( Nope, no digs at the Brits for that one! ))
