At what age does a husky pull?

This question is solely based on what the breed can do. I have been told that service dogs should not start pulling things like wheelchairs, ambulatory people or bracing until they are two years old. (Because their growth plates have to be sealed and they need a xray to confirm that) However, a husky is literally designed to pull and I have read some people start as early as six months with a light harness. So what time would a husky start pulling? And then at what time would a husky learn to pull a person on a sled?

As far as I know, all the sled dog racing organisations in the UK have 12 months as the minimum age at which a dog can be entered in a race as part of a team. Most people that I know start training their pups at about 10 months - usually running them with their "slow" or "oldies" team over short distances. As they get older and fitter, speed and distance can be increased.

You can start introducing the harness 6-12 months with no resistance, 12-18 months with light/moderate load, and at 24 months be able to start allowing full pulling ability conditioning. Though the breed is 'bred to pull' you can do a lot of irreparable damage to growth plates if not introduced and conditioned properly.
