While out on a walk today i heard yet another stupid remark about a husky...... I took daisy for a walk and we met up with a husky owner who has a white husky. Well as we were walking along the track towards the welsh border we over took a couple with their boxer dog.... as we got past them we over heard the woman say to her partner "Thats not a real husky. Real ones are grey". To which i just turn round looked at them and said "Thats not a real boxer it has a long tail" (i know they arent allowed to be docked any more unless its a working dog and the tail would be seen as a hazard). I just wanted her to be on the receiving end of a dumb comment.

Now i must admit before i found this site i was drawn more towards the stereotypical husky markings but since joining i am in no way colourist and really dont mind what colourings the furball has......

So when you were looking for your first husky were you colourist???

Actually yes we were.

Why?

Because prior to getting our first - Daughtry. We had recently had a white german shepherd - 'Bear' who passed away just a couple of months before.

So while there were several extremely cute white Husky puppies at the breeders, we deliberately stayed away from white.

So as not to have the accusation thrown at us that we were simply "replacing" Bear (RIP).

so i went to look at puppies and my only stipulation was that my pup couldnt be white,,

My first husky wasn't my choice - nor was getting a husky my choice !! My ex chose a pup based on the fact that he wanted a husky, he wanted a male and the ones he went to see there was only one male left... <sigh>

Saaba is a grey and white with brown/hazel eyes.

We got Raya as a friend for Saaba and I wanted an older female (not bothered about colour!) Raya is grey and white with bright blue eyes..

The ex has Saaba and I have Raya. Eventually I would like to get a male friend for her. I do have a passion for the reds, but if the right fit came along and he was black/grey, or even purple I would be more happy that they got along rather than colour :D

(also , despite my 'I dont want a husky - look at me now! I made 10,000% effort and ex made 10%) WHOOP!

Well... I didn't even know there were white huskies before I saw Ghost's ad. Anyway, I was just sending bf pictures of male husky pups for sale, and I eventually ended up repeating Ghost's photo over and over. Since I like the books of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' there was this white direwolf in it (though with red eyes) named Ghost, we (I mainly) decided for Ghost.

I actually wanted a silver/grey Husky, had to be female as I have 2 male Border Collies & thought another male 'might' introduce trouble.

I had this idea that I wanted a nice mask, I prefer facial markings to a completely white face but that doesn't mean I don't like white faced dogs post-3916-13586069485966_thumb.gif or wouldn't have one ;)

When we went to see the breeder, he had a pure silver bitch who had small silver blobs under her eyes & Mishka. When I saw Mishka's beautiful mask, it didn't matter about the colour any more :D

I still don't know what colour you'd say she is. She's down as black.

Pic as a pup & how she is now, look at her mask .

She has a cream undercoat which makes her appear brown in summer but other times she appears grey? :P

Whatever colour she is, she's my baby girl & knows it :lolman:

lol i get this with micha (our white husky) people tell me she isnt a real husky because she is white. i just turn round and say her papers say she is, and also she is faster and smarter has amazing eyesight fantastic hearing and amazing sense of smell. if i have been lied to and she isn't a real Siberian husky, then i am glad

I really wanted a silver-gray, but my first one ended up being black/white. When it came time to find our second I still really wanted my silver-gray and anything BUT a red....I hadn't seen many reds that I really liked and that's when we met Juneau. She was a dark copper red and in love we fell. 4 years later I got my gray boy and this year added a gray girl and another red. But I no longer choose my Siberians based on color or eye color.

I hear comments like this all the time as Polee is white with hazel eyes most people mistake her for an Akita or white GSD. This included our vet who had seen Polee from a distance before we went to the surgery for the 1st time. Our vets has 2 white GSD's and had a heated discussion with her daughter about Polee being a GSD but her daughter was friends with my ex's daughter so knew Polee was a siberian. Needless to say the vet had to apologise to her daughter once she'd seen Polee close up. If I was to get another husky I would prefer him or her to be white but it wouldn't be essential if they weren't.
