Elyse
I've always wondered this. When I walk Suka, I always see people holding their dog's leash with their left hand. I always walk Suka on my right hand side - so my right hand is holding the leash. I feel that's the opposite way you're supposed to do it, since I see otherwise! I walk him on my right because I feel I have better control (he still 'jerk pulls', though not as often), and it just feels....odd...when his leash is in my left hand. Even when I first started out when I got him. So, which hand do you hold your dog's leash in? Right? Left? ( or Both hands!? lol) And Why? On another note, I find it odd that most people I've seen hold the leash with their left. But, statistically, 95%+ of the population is right handed! So...why would you hold the leash with your weaker hand....? Edited September 27, 2012 by SolitaryHowl
HuskyMom09
I walk mine on my left since that's where they are supposed to be in the show ring. But I know my right hand is more dominant so it was awkward at first!
aronoiiel
I walk on the right the whole left side of my body is very weak so I have better control on the right.
Bec
I have the dogs on my left and have the leash in my left hand. More control that way even though I am right handed. My dogs are taught to walk on a loose leash beside me unless I give them more leash then they can walk a bit further ahead.

stormchaser09
Usually hold the leads with my right hand but the dogs on my left and use my left hand for controlling them. The loops of the lead are round my right wrist. I do the same even when I use the walking belt I have the leads loosely in my left hand. Most of the time. Tanya-Meika&Keeva
I always have him on my left using the left hand so that i am between him and the traffic and go with the direction of traffic. It means he will always be safe.
simhauu
Dogs, at least here are supposed to walk on the left side, plus I'm left handed. I do use the walking belt so sometimes it's neither hand.
Stranger
it depends where we are, if i am walking 1 or two or if i am walking with someone or alone. i prefer to have the dog to my left, with the lead around my right wrist, holding the lead with my left hand

Storm Angel n Auroras Mum
depends on if I have both dogs or one. if its one then its the right. if its both then its storm on the right (coz im stronger in that arm) and angel on the left. Seren
use my left - plus i'm left handed so its my 'stronger' hand
raindog
I walk mine on the left for three reasons. Firstly, I tend to walk on the left side of the road (drivers instinct) and this puts me between the dog and the traffic. Secondly, most of ours are shown and in the showring they are usually moved with the dog on the left side of the exhibitor. Thirdly, although I'm right handed, I've been walking dogs for so long on the left that anything else feels "wrong" and unbalanced. There's probably some historical reason as well - If you have your dog on your left, you can still use your swordhand to fight off any footpads or highwaymen???????? BlueWolf
Glala's on the left and Dana's always on the right so both, lol. When walking only one I don't really mind which hand I use. It feels both the same for me as I'm left and right handed.
MollynDiesel
I always used to hold Ds lead with my right because he was on my right side. But now i use and walk him on my left...
Povodny
Lead loop round right wrist and controlled with left hand. Or ahead on a walking belt lol Incidentally, I carried my children on my left hip and prefer babies in the crook of my left arm. Much more comfy I'm right handed but my left was stronger up until the mono neuritis multiplex
Hyshqa
No hands! Walking belt If I do ever hold their leads it's usually because we're only walking a short distance, i.e. from the house to the car So then I'll hold both leads in the same hand, left or right.
