jessiezara90
I take Meeko to socialisation puppy classes but hes six months now and and have been looking for classes elsewhere, living where I am there isn't much at all around but there are a few dog trainers around that do one to one but so far I have emailed three and they have been quick to respond but as soon as I mention husky they ignore me!!! Not to mention the comments I have had off members when I first started class about how untrainable huskies are ( even though he has got all his certificates now and the trainer loves him:)
Povodny
The words 'ignorance' and 'snobs' spring to mind. Although that doesn't help your situation, sorry
stormchaser09
Sounds like they are afraid to try in case its too much like hard work for them.
Sparks
Wow really? They must be doing well to turn down work :/ Can't be very confident in their training skills can they... jim_tinmois
I'd be saying 'you're a dog trainer arent you ? - so train my dog please' 'Unless of course you only think you are a dog trainer' !!! lol
Elyse
I hate people like that. I wouldn't recommend to anybody. That just shows they aren't confident in their training skills. Everybody can train a Lab, but training a Husky takes a special type of person. (Hey, that sounds like one of the famous 'coffee-mug' quotes! LOL)
jessiezara90
I know I'm a bit baffled really it's not like I have emailed them and said I have a killer husky help, I've even said there's no specific problems, just general stuff and want to learn etcetc
Elyse
Is there a 'PetSmart' or another big chain pet store that offers training? The trainers work on commission, so they are bound to do a good job. When I first got Suka, my husky, from the shelter...I didn't know what he knew and I didn't know how to tell (he was my first dog so...). Going to PetSmart for the 'beginner' classes not only told me he knew more than what was expected, but it was a GREAT bonding experience. I still use some of the tips and tricks I was given to this day.

Rosemary
when Ozzy was four months old our vet gave us the name of a trainer who held puppy and socialization classes in our (very small) town. I gave the guy a call and he was very friendly until he heard I had a husky, he then told me sorry, he doesn't work with huskies they are too disruptive A few weeks later we took Ozzy to be weighed and I mentioned the phone call to the vet who recommended him, he walked to the notice board, took the flyer off and threw it in the bin. LittleLuka
I'm taking luka to petsmart and our trainer loves him! He gives us special training tips as opposed to the other dogs in there lol because we have a husky. He doesn't even mind when Luka talks throughout the whole class. He works great with the other dogs but he also always gives Luka some special attention. He said he's worked with quite a few of the breed. Seren
The trainer we had for Seren told us he had heard things about huskies, which had made him not especially want to work with them before - we had to convince him a bit (you should have seen his face when he walked in and got a very excited greeting) But after an hour he realised they wouldn't hurt a fly and fell in love with her and the breed after a few sessions. tgainsbrough
Multiple places where I have looked to get training they would say they wouldn't train huskies! When I contacted them and told them that i was training Kora to be my service dog they will a lot more lenient. ;.; So I have heard of these problems with training many different dogs that are too 'once minded' to train. jessiezara90
Well one trainer has got back to me but she costs £485........hmmm maybe not, is it really that expensive?
simhauu
I get asked if we go to training classes all the time. He was at a dog hotel the last couple of days, and the lady told us that he's a good boy and that only thing we should work on was for him to be more individual - to crate him - and that we should teach him not to pull but she didn't know him when he was 4 months. He doesn't really pull now, only when a female in heat passes. A fellow husky owner asked me what more do I want from a dog than sit and down, or sth.
