Anton Freyr Birgisson from Hella at GrÃmsstaðir was among the five people searching for sheep north of Lake Mývatn on Saturday. He says they wouldn’t have found the sheep if it hadn’t been for the fact that it bleated when they were close by. On their way back to the farm, they found several dead sheep. Anton Freyr says there were signs that foxes had been feeding off the animals. Last month, there were reports that sheep trapped in snow had been attacked and killed by foxes. Around 3,000 sheep are thought to have died in Skagafjörður, Þingeyjar and Eyjafjörður counties, North Iceland, as a result of the mid-September blizzard.
