Sulkying with the guys....

My guys and I go sulkying--it's like a cart only built like horse sulkies. Real spiffy, guy who's been building horse sulkies for 30 years "Down Under" makes 'em; the only bad thing is the cost of shipping from Australia is about half the cost of the sulky!

Anyway, thought I'd upload a few of our recent escapades...these are out at what we call The Ponds...the local sanitary district reclamation ponds (and no, they only stink occasionally). ;o) They're right on the marsh alongside the San Francisco Bay, with trails winding around and between the three ponds, so I can get a good 45-minute run for them.

One was on a real foggy day--beautiful out there when it's socked in, real muffled and mysterious, especially just after dawn

I let them go their own speed mostly, and Koch would have made a GREAT little musher if she'd had the chance; she turns on a dime with either a really light touch on the reins or a quiet "gee" or "haw". They know, of course, when "something" has been around, coyote or so forth, so I let 'em stop and sniff the "important" stuff. Talk about spoiled huskies!

On the other hand, it's really COOL when my husband joins us on his bike. My little girl Kochyok (the blonde one) can't BEAR to be behind anyone, so when she sees him she takes off like a shot until we pass him, then drops back into a trott until he passes us, and so on. I get a GOOD ride out of 'em then!

Jim can go right on out the marsh over a mile, but the track out there gets thicker and my guys just WILL not learn to run on either side of the middle, so the sulky wheels end up in rolling through the brush, which is too hard for them to pull any distance, being lazy oafs. But when Jim rode out there, they were all head up to follow so I let 'em for a bit. This is what happens coming BACK, however, when I let them go out there:

POOPED puppies! But happy ones. A tired husky is a good husky...
