Mobezilla
Oh my gosh what a tear-jerker! Faith in humanity restored +100 although sad.
aronoiiel
That's pretty sad. The one thing about that story everyone should remember is the same with all stories involving dogs getting into water. Animals have a much better chance escaping something like that than people do. Remember that unless your pet is stuck in an icy pond with thing ice and no leverage then chances are your animal will find it's own way out unharmed. Human beings are far more likely to perish in instances like this than the animal
Verrillion
Rescue from water is one of the hardest things. Yes absolutely more people die trying to save dogs that escape afterwards. As first aider the rule is dont make yourself another casualty. But try make a rope to get to them . Tie clothing together can soon be long rope that can be clinged to. Children in water in difficulties can kill you if your not a trained life saver. ( Its a must to approach from there back so as not allow them to drive you under in there panic and drown you). Trousers can make a bouyancy aid tie bottoms of legs and fill with air. But as they used to say at end of American TV prog just take care out there. I heard it doesn't matter if its a child or not...any person, regardless of age, can end up pulling you under when they are panicking. And, if they don't know how to swim, they will be panicking! Which is why its so important to learn how to swim, and even if you prove to be drown-proof in the pool...ALWAYS wear a life jacket when you go out into a boat. I've swam in lakes and the ocean (briefly - cold!) before - it is a very different experience than being in a pool. Now, if they had a long leash attached to the dog, they could have just pulled him in. Edited December 9, 2012 by SolitaryHowl
