Vangp29
Help! This thing popped out about 4 days ago. It popped out overnight, swelling on his right cheek reaching the bottom of his jaw up to his ear it felt like chunks of fat and about 12 hours later a hard bump popped out behind/under his right ear, and now it gotten bigger and it look like this. The swelling fat chunk thingy is gone now. I heard Benedryl works i have been giving it to him for about 2 days ago that prob why the chucky thing is gone. but the big pimple looking thing is bigger and goowey. Also i shaved his hair so it look like this, although little of his hair fell off before i shaved in the area. He is acting normal, eating normal, pooping normal, not throwing up, still active and normal. He had been scathing it too lately. I think it is why it grew little bigger. Gideon Cross
Wow, You better take him to the vet and make sure that isn't something cancerous.

sutsibe
Looks like a cyst that's burst. Benedryl probably won't help much, as it isn't likely caused by an allergy. Antibiotics would be a very good idea (shaving it was good!) to make sure that no infection develops as the wound starts to heal - if it heals outside before the inside heals, pus is likely to accumulate inside and not be able to drain away, not allowing it to heal. Osinn11
Could also be an abscess. We've never had to deal with them with the husky's but....we've dealt with them in a few of our gliders. Definitely would get to the vet I'm thinking meds will be needed to help heal properly. jessiezara90
Poor guy! It does look like a cyst, or sarcoid or even rain scold? But these are things I have seen on horses not doggies. Hope he is better soon.

Andy
Our German Shepherd, Echo gets something similar occasionally. It can be caused by a bite (insect or even husky play nipping) or scratching and then the bite / scratch gets infected. It then swells up filling with pus until it bursts, leaving an area of open wound (Looks really nasty) Yes take him to the vet. Antibiotics may be needed. we trim the fur back and bathe a couple of times per day with dilute disinfectant. Keep it clean. It heals up. SA DA KA
Vangp29 The minute we saw your photo, we knew this was an abscess. We have had this experience twice, once with our Dakota and with Our Kayak (RIP) A product our Vet gave to us which worked wonderful on healing the abscess or opened wounds is called "Accelerator, Topical Solution" it is a wound spray providing faster healing to open sores. Here is a link to the product... http://www.jefferspet.com/accelerator/p/0040488/ Also we have attached an article about head and neck abscesses.... Removed #2
Vangp29 Please let us know what you do. Most vets, especially the ones from the Pet Project will work with you on the cost. Please do not leave this go, it will be easily infected. Vangp29
Sa Da Ka how much did you pay? I'm taking my husky to the vet tomorrow. Estimate how much would you think it would cost?
sutsibe
Costs vary widely, depending on your area. I live in a rural area, and my vet is quite cheap by most standards. Vets in large cities tend to be more expensive, largely (but not exclusively) due to the costs of running a business in that environment - they have to pay more for the property and everything else. Typical costs would be for an exam, sedative and/or anesthetic, depending on how long it would take to clean the wound out, cost for surgery, and antibiotics. The links that HuskyHijinx gave you likely would be helpful to find a vet that would help you at a greatly reduced rate, or aid you in other ways to make sure your pup gets the help needed... Biggles
I know how difficult it is to pay vet bills, however you may find that if you leave it any longer you are going to end up with an even more expensive vet bill than you have at the moment. Mollys_mum
Perhaps ring several vets for quote to treat a burst abscess? Then ask if they'd accept some sort of payment plan.
SA DA KA
Sa Da Ka how much did you pay? I'm taking my husky to the vet tomorrow. Estimate how much would you think it would cost? Vangp29 Your question about the cost. If it is the Vet visit, roughly 45 -56 dollars, for the spray it was 30 -34 dollars. Hope this answered your question... They do have a web site for the Accelerator ( Topical Solution) Spray for dogs.... this product is amazing. It is normally used by large animal Vets...
