k9angel
Hi all, My name is Rachel and I am from Sydney, Australia. I own and rescue Siberian Huskies. My own dogs include Takoda who is 16mths old, Blacky who is 7 yrs old, Zuess who is 8 yrs old and recovering from ZRD, Luki who is 2yrs old and who was a foster failure - he is half sibe/half lab. Rescues I have in care atm include Alaska, a long termer who has been with us for 2+yrs now, Logan, and Boy. There was also another, Wolf, but he was adopted just before Xmas. I have been rescuing Death row dogs for 4 years now and although it's heartbreaking at times, it's all worthwhile when you see one of your rescue dogs go off to their new home and get to live a long, happy life being loved and spoiled, the way they should be. I also recieve alot of happy updates and have kept in contact with many of my ex rescues and their new families. Takoda Zuess, my boy with ZRD Blacky girl Luki - foster failure Luki was about 10wks old when we rescued him from Death row. He had parvovirus and was a very sick little pup when we picked him up and was very close to death. The vet gave him a 50/50 chance of survival. With prompt treatment though, he made a full recovery and is now a much loved member of our family. Logan - rescue awaiting his forever home Logan was found in the middle of no where tied to a tree. No one knows how long he had been there for. He is a gorgeous boy, both on the inside and out. Alaska - rescue - foster failure if her forever home is not found Alaska is 9 years old. She came from a really bad home where she, her Mum, Jasmine and brother, Bailey were left to fend for themselves in a back yard. All 3 were surrended to the pound and when all 3 had no other options and were on Death row, we rescued them. Both girls were suppose to be desexed but then they came into season, I soon discovered otherwise. When I took Jasmine to be desexed, they opened her up and found her to be full of pyometra. The vet said that by rights, she should of been dead. They gave me 2 options, 1) give her her wings on the op table or 2) continue and do their best. Ofcoarse I opted for option 2, despite them warning me it would be a costly operation and no garentee she'd make it. (she was 9 at the time). I figured she had had a crap life up until now, she more than deserved a chance at a proper life. Thankfully Jaz made it and I will never forget the way she looked at me afterwards. The way she looked into my eye's as if to say thankyou. It was priceless and one of the reasons I do what I do. Jasmine and Bailey went on to find loving homes, Alaska still waits. Because of her upbringing and lack of socialisation, she is very shy around new people she meets. Once she gets to know you though, she's your best friend. She has come a long way though since she first came into care. Boy - rescue also awaiting his forever home. Boy was surrended to the pound after his owners moved from a house to a unit and were unable to take him with them.

Tanya-Meika&Keeva
Welcome to the forum. I think it's fantastic you foster these beautiful dogs. It's very sad to see so many without forever homes. I see the photos on the ABR Facebook page and wish I lived closer to be able to help them.
