Austinville
I think you'll find that brass is better than nickle.....Every lead I have, I make sure the snaps are brass and I've never had a problem. Thank goodness your husky came back! Too scary!

Thank goodness your husky came back! Too scary! My friend's leads have brass snaps and they've opened too. I think they just get caught on the dog's coat, another lead etc. It wasn't my Husky that got free, it was one of my Collies so no major hassle but it did highlight the problem as it could easily have been one of the Huskies. Mine has brilliant recall but my foster would probably have been off!
Staceybob
Brass will last longer than Nickel but it wont stop the clasp from accidentally being pressed open. I've used links from harnesses to collars as any harness or collar has the potential to be escaped from if the dog really tries to. I haven't really thought about the clasps opening on a walk, but I generally have Aleu walking by my side so I don't really give her the opportunity to pull the lead about and make the clasp open, but either way, it's a nice added extra. I don't think I'd go as far as locking carabineers for Aleu but maybe just a spring carabineer as a just incase. Stacey xxx
brian brown
Stacey, you only have. Aleu, I'm walking 4 together on one walking belt, more chance of things catching. On this occasion, one of them had picked up a stick so they were all close together when he ran off.

My eldest Border Collie is 11 & until now, I've never had one come open but it has this time:erm: It's only after speaking to people & discussing it that I've realised I'm not the only person who's had the problem. Perhaps we've both been lucky until now as it obviously can & does happen
