crate training problems and successes

hey yall i have seen some of the other threads and im sure yall have annswered many about crate training but i have some questions. my pup is 7 weeks old and 3 days now and i got her at week 6! (i know its early but what could i do) she has been sleeping in her crate everynight and enjoys it some during the day. the only problem i am having is if she is hyper when i need her to be in the crate, she hates it. i have been trying to get her to get into it with me in there and praising her, but the second i leave she whines a whole lot. so do i need to just invest in some head phones and ignore it or continue to try to get her used to it in segments? also she whines at night to go outside and use the restroom which is such a great blessing. but around 7:30-8:00 she starts to whine and its not becuase of a restroom break. (she usually goes to potty at 6:30-6:45). so once again do i need to ignore her or let her out and play then put her back in??

THANKS so much for all of yall answers and time it is VERY VERY appreciated and relieves much of my stress!!

How many hours total are you having her in the crate? If you know of a specific time you will need her to be in the crate maybe you can plan to play with her for a while before it is time to put her in the crate. That way she will be tired and not hyper when you put her in the crate. At 7 weeks she will still require a lot of sleep so use those times to get her used to the crate. Also at 7 weeks she will need to go out to the restroom every couple hours. Good luck. I adopted my Aurora at 4 weeks so I remember well how having a puppy can be. She is beautiful!

i usually only leave her for one hour or two at the most by far (i am a student and have a easy schedule so that mila would adjust easier, hopefully!). and recently she has started to go number 2 and 1 in the crate. the only thing is that she goes out right before she goes into the crate and also she is usually tired but still has her little freaks outs! i am not sure if this seperation anxierty or just normal puppy reactions? any tips or advice would be fantastic!

Luka was a nightmare to potty train. He went in his crate which was surprising because everyone told me that dogs don't like to soil their beds. Make sure the crate is the proper size and if its large to section it off. You only want it big enough for her to stand up in and turn around. Anymore space and she will def potty in it.

Puppies get distracted easily so it takes some effort to get them to use the bathroom. I used to put Luka on a lead and walk around till he would go which prevented accidents in his crate.

As for the waking you up my two wake me up no later than 7 am no matter what day. They're ready to play regardless. Make sure you're givin her some play time and socialization in the am it will help her not be so restless in her crate while you're gone.

I can't remember if it was another thread you posted or not but I wouldn't let her out everytime she whines or she will expect that when she whines she gets free. I personally don't leave luka in his crate if I'm home even when he was a puppy so I didn't have too hard of a time with it. Good luck!

I didn't crate train Aurora but I did potty train her fairly quickly. When I was home I set the alarm on my phone to go off every hour. I would then take Aurora out and tell her to go potty. As soon as she did so I gave her a treat. (usually a piece of cat food I already had in my pocket). At night I set my alarm for every 2 hours. Yes it was tough but I did what I had to do. When she was at home alone for more than a few hours while I was at work I put her in a large metal cage. It was large enough to have a small area for bathroom and a separate area for sleeping and I also paid my neighbor to come and let her out to go and had her give Aurora a treat as well. Even now when she goes to the door and barks for us to let her out after she goes she still runs to the cabinet that has her treat in it. Sometimes I give her a treat but sometimes I just give her praise. She sleeps with us at night and on the off chance she needs to go potty at night now she will come a nudge me to wake me up...... Puppies are a lot of work but both my Schnauzers and now Aurora quickly potty trained this way. Maybe you can try it or I am sure someone on here will have other methods that works.

On a side note I see you are in Starkville. I assume you go to Mississippi State. My hubby went to state and he and I both are originally from the McComb MS area
