Dog's Death During Iditarod, Prompts Change In Future Plans

It's sad that one of the dogs in this year's Iditarod died.  Here's a link to an article from Fox Sports that goes into some of the detail.

That's sad, poor doggy. :(

 

I'm surprised they didn't have more safety regulations in place before - like enclosed dog shelters at every checkpoint.

 Any death in Iditarod is incredibly sad. They did have an enclosed shelter, but they were overwhelmed by the number of dogs to care for exceeding the number they could keep indoors, 130 in total, due to bad weather setting in. They were only able to take 100 indoors into a barn, and the others they tried to give the best shelter they could. hopefully there will be lessons that can be learnt from this to prevent it happening again.
