Andy
OK try this first. It sounds silly, but it sometimes works for Laptops that have got "stuck" Unplug it from the power and Take the battery off. Open it up and turn it upside down. Press the power button for 20 seconds. (I know it's not plugged in and no battery) It's something to do with fully discharging any residual charge in the machine. Put it back together, plug it in and try again.

Andy
OK when you switch it on press F8 keep pressing it. this "should" get you into the BIOS boot menu. If it gets you that far. there should be an option. F5 load optimised defaults. Hit F5 then F10 to save the changes and reboot.

Mollys Dad
PC won't start properly - can't help with that problem without more detailed info. But... You should be able to recover data from your drive easily if you can borrow another pc / laptop, but you need some parts. Get / buy a hard drive 'caddy', I paid £2-3 for mine. insert your laptop hard drive into it, plug the caddy into another machine. It will treat your drive like an external drive / memory stick. Copy / print / email / whatever any documents you want. Doesn't fix your computer, does allow you full access to your files.
