Mia-Blue
So finally I feel as though I am getting somewhere with my daughter's school As some of you know my daughter is suspected to have Aspergers and is finding school and life in general a challenge. Well after our latest meeting in school today the educational psychologist has managed to get school to admit they are failing Brooke. The long and short of it means they are now going to apply for her to be statemented and possibly move her out off mainstream school. I feel relieved things are finally moving in the right direction, but sad that mainstream isn't working But the main thing for Brooke is for her to be happy and currently she isn't, so although its not going to be a quick process, the process has started. So tonight I'm one happy mummy
Devildust76
Wow that's good news It's a step in the right direction isn't it? We have friends that have fought for their daughter to be assessed and finally she was and is on the Autistic spectrum, she's also profoundly deaf and struggled at school already! Frenchie
My bestfriend's brother has Aspergers, he done well in school but he did have some social issues. Glad the school has realized their mistake and are thinking of your daughter's well being in school environements, I'm sure more specialist schools are used to children with similar conditions, so they won't treat her like the mainstream school would Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Mia-Blue
I'm so pleased Simon, its been such an emotional rollercoaster at times for my whole family. As the NHS waiting list is almost 3 years for an autistic spectrum disorder, they are paying for some to be assessed by a private firm, and luckily for us Brooke has been selected so we should have a diagnosis by the end of the year It's so unfair that we have to fight for help, being a parent is a tough enough job without the added struggle of needing but not always getting the support we need! But finally all my shouting appears to be paying off

It's also sad that our education system has to employ private firms to do this sort of thing. It should be done when a concern is raised not when you've shouted yourself hoarse!!! I agree, because many parents don't know they can shout, challenge and demand help so often children and their families do not get the support they need. I feel very fortunate that as I work in this field I know what support there is and how to get it.
Mia-Blue
My bestfriend's brother has Aspergers, he done well in school but he did have some social issues. Brooke has many social issues and really struggles in the high school environment, there are too many unexpected changes each day that often results in her being isolated from class
Emma
Great to hear that things are moving in the right direction now. The statementing process can be loooooooong but the fact that you can get assessed for one at all is an achievement in itself! In our borough they're like gold dust (and about to become extinct as of september 2014 the london borough of bromley is piloting a scheme where statements are replaced with a health care plan that will be a holistic approach to children, embracing educational/medical needs etc.... rather than just focussing on one area. Sounds great in theory but there's bound to be more than a few bugs along the way.) I wish you and Brooke all the best, I hope this will be the breakthrough you've been fighting so hard for. xxxx

The feeling today was the statement is a must and needs completing as soon as possible to be accepted. Brooke is currently year 8 and apparently to be given a statement after mid year 9 is almost impossible, so fingers crossed the paperwork is completed before the end of this academic year! It's been a real tough month with Brooke both in and out of school, I'm emotionally worn out by her, so I have a lot pinned on this! sarahjng
Teenagers are hard work, teenagers with any kind of issues are incredibly hard, teenagers with issues and fucktard teaching staff/administrators can make you want to bang your head off the nearest wall. Congratulations on getting that far, you truly deserve a medal ! The only way I got through it was to keep reminding myself that in ten years my kid would be a well educated, well rounded kind, decent human being, and they would still be a power mad, bitter, miserable old fart !!! It helped a surprising amount.

Hope it goes well keep us posted I think the idea is to attempt to keep her in mainstream with support to see how it goes and if she doesn't improve move her into a specialist unit. But to be perfectly honest she is in such a downward trend at the moment I really can't see there being much chance of her being able to remain where she is. I've said I'm happy for her to move if thats deemed the best thing as she just isn't reaching her targets and is being extremely distributive in class on a daily basis, and as a result is very unsettled and difficult at home she is a nightmare at the moment so I'm finding it pretty tough to keep her from having daily meltdowns
