I have yet to read any of the books, but watch each episode again immediately before watching each new episode, as a kind of 'warm up'. And watch the whole of the previous season just before the new season starts. Sad, I know. I have the 1st book, which I will start once I have finished my current read - the complete Sherlock Holmes. I only hope that GRRM manages to finish writing the books before his health / age get the better of him.
