What Other Methods Could I Try?

Hello all, it has been a while since I last logged in.

Alodia is now 8 months but I am still having slight difficulty with these issues. I don't really have much experience to disciplining unwanted behaviour and am needing advice.

1. She loves to bite/nip hands, or anything that is being held in your hand.

Whether you are reaching out to pet her head or back, she would snap at you, not out of agression though. She does this when she's excited. And if you're holding onto something in your hand then she would try to reach for it. I had tried the yelping method, the time-out, and firmly holding her jaw, but none of them work. It has become quite hard to play with her when all she wants is to nip your hand.

2. Jumping on people

Odie gets extremely excited when guest arrive, and would proceed to jump on them. We have tried ignoring her until she calms down, but she never actually does calm down. She would dig into your hip when you turn your back towards her and jump repeatedly.

3. Door scratching.

As it is winter here and raining I've been letting her sleep with me on my bedroom floor. Most nights she would sleep soundly nti. sunrise. However she recently she always wants to go OUT (as in roam the house freely) rather than sleep at night. She would scratch the door and whie for hours on end until she either sleeps or I escort her back outside to the backyard.

I do give her plenty of exercise except it has been pouring outside lately so we've put off our usual jogs. What else can I try to train her? I would also like to know why she does this to understand her better. She's a really good dog and sweet, but I just don't understand her and I think there is a miscommunication between us. Any help?

1 how long did you use each method for ?? as none is a quick fix, it took me months to stop Odin nipping when he was young.

2 put her out each time she jumps up at people or put a lead on her, only taking it off when she is calm. good luck all 3 of mine will great you like that.

3 big mistake taking her to your room if she's not used to it, do you trust her to roam the house ? is so could you not leave your door open for her ??

they are very playful excited dogs mine get really excited with visitors, you just need to stick to one method for her to learn xxxxxx

I have these exact issues with my 7 month old. The worst is the jumping and the nipping. I haven't had success yet. :(  Luckily she only seems to nip at me and OH and is too excited by other people to nip them.

We're going on vacation shortly to visit family and she will be around a lot of people, including children. I will be leaving a short leash on her, and will have bitter apple at the ready. We've worked really hard on commands the last several weeks so hopefully it pays off.

1. Pick one of those methods you are trying and stick to it it can sometimes take months of persistent training for them to get it.

2. Tell anyone who comes into your home to stand with arms folding and turn their back on her if she does it as you said still even if you do do that then put her out of the room and keep doing it until she finally realises that doing these things stops her from seeing anyone.

3. My two sleep crated at night downstairs and that wont change, i would suggest choosing where she is going to sleep and stick to it the whining etc will stop eventually.

4. Do you still go for a walk atleast? You can also try frozen kongs to tire her out mentally and do some indoor training like your usual sit and stay etc etc (its still good to do these even if they know them!)

They will only do what you let them do, also dont expect results in one day its just not like that with dogs but you will notice your hard work paying off eventually :) training is constant and you never stop :)

the important thing is this is common to all huskies.

they all go through these phases.

It's nothing to worry about.

Just be firm and consistant.
