Meet Jake our first husky he had been with 2 other family's from pup then got too big for them to handle so past him on until we took him on at 14 month unable to sit, walk, stay he didnt even know his name

i am happy to say he now knows his name very well :) he walks great sits, runs with the bike even says please :)  we have fallen in love with everything husky :P and i would not change him for the world

but ........(always a but lol) we need some help

Poor thing had some kind of rash or scab come up on his face about 6 months ago ish so we took him to the vets as you do

they wanted to do some tests ....skin scrape ect so we has this done they then got the results and told us there was nothing found

so i said about zrd after reading up on the forum

they said "no its not likely to be zrd thats very rare" told us it will be something he is eating

the food he was on at this point was Wag and had been on it since we got him (age 14 month) with no problems then 8 months later he got his first load of scabs/rash

so after the vet told us it would be something in his food we started looking around at different foods and changed his food to Skinners Field & Trail Salmon & Rice as it was recommended as being good food

about 3 weeks later we started to see his face clear (still cleaning with salt water) and thought wow vet was spot on

6 months on and he has come out in the scabs/rash again so off to the vet again we went only to get told ......."we need to do some tests ie skin scrapes"

so at this point i was like we did this 6 months ago and you told us nothing was found!!!!!

i am now at a point i dont know what to do and its killing me that i cant sort this problem out :( :(

i have attached a pic of the Ingredients (this is the food he has now) can anyone tell me if this food is correct and how much he should get he is a tad over 20kg

at the moment i give him 3/4 scoop twice a day poo is solid mostly and he has plenty of energy (as always) but in the last week he has started to turn his nose up at the food

someone also said about a product called nutrazinc so i have got some but don't want to give him any as of yet till i know if its what he needs and how much to give any help or idea??????

i know i have mentioned a few things but this is to try and paint a full picture and i know we have to change one thing at a time but what ????

any help or idea as to what it is would be appreciated (woof woof from jake)

I'm no expert but looks like ZRD to me

There is a topic on the forum regarding this and the following is link to a FB group started by some HO members who's dogs have ZRD:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/535344663173310/?fref=ts

You may want to discuss ZRD specifically with your Vet and ask them to check for it presuming they haven't already

Poor thing that looks sore :(

Around his lip looks sort of like what my girl gets but not as bad as and that's a reaction to a plant.

But from what my vet said when I asked them about it, it looks a lot like what he described they also said they normally have it from early age and they show signs of it then. Sorry I can't help hope you get it sorted soon x

I would say it zrd my boy keeps getting it but only round his mouth no matter wat food I give him it goes away then comes back the vets did test and that came back clear he is now on zinc tablets 1 a day with salmon oil I'm also ordering a product from snowpaws as that help the body absorb the zinc

Everyone has already given you great advice, the only thing that I would add since your vet doesn't seem to want to diagnose it I would say try to get a second opinion from another vet if you can that can help you work with it. I'd be wary of a vet that wouldn't listen to my concerns, as obviously it shouldn't be food related when you've been on the food for months without problem.

Defo looks like ZRD, although parker gets a similar thing, normally related to the time of the year, as it normally happens in summer time...

I would suggest the following

Stop all treats if you are giving him, as this sometimes what causes a reaction

only treats I would recommend would be anything natural...so raw fish, fish4dog treats, carrots, chickens feet...

you said he is already on a fish based diet, this should help..

Parker only seems to get it during the months of april-october, as long as we don't give him treats and up his fish in take it keeps the red scabby bits away, he just gets dry flaky skin in his ears now which I treat with oil.

thanks for all the input :)

I was wondering if he gets the correct fat/protein content from his food or if i should add something to it

and if so what ???

we stopped all treats when he flared up again thinking it could be something to do with the treat but he has had no treats for the past 2 weeks and its no better

i think im gonna try him on a dose of the nutrazinc for a couple of weeks see if that helps

anyone know how much i should give him ??? the tub says 2.5 scoops but you can increase it if need be

i was thinking start him off on something like 4 scoops per day then add maybe 2 or 3 extra if i see no results in 7 days what you guys think??

thanks again for all your help and comments

im not sure, ive never used it, sounds like a lot though 4 scoops...

If your planning on adding to his diet, make sure that anything which is raw is given a few hours, if not more before the kibble, as they digest at different rates. Feeding him raw and kibble at the same time would result in the raw going straight through and no protein or goods extracted.

have you considered whole raw fish? in this weather you can freeze it and give it to him like an ice pop. both of mine have to have theirs cut in half though so they can get to the inside otherwise they don't know what to do with it :)
