ZachAttack
My dog has recently been socialised with another pup from the family but instead of playing nicely he just tends to stare at him intently before pouncing on him as if he were prey. I know their prey drive is high but what can i do to stop this behaviour? I want to teach him that its not ok to be as rough but at the same time i dont want to think hes not allowed to play with other dogs. My uncle says theyre just playing but i dont think it is when it gets that rough. Am I wrong?
sarahjng
How old are they both ? We recently got a new pup and when they play it is rough, unless I hear proper yelps I try not to step in, there have been times you would swear he's killing her and I can actually see them, and her only problem is he won't play and wants to chill lol. Sometimes they lie on their backs, show all the teeth, lips curled, real scary looking and yet never connect, it's definitely play. Could you get a video of them together ? There are loads of people on here with tons more experience than me, but actually seeing it would help I think. Oh, what breed is the other pup ? ZachAttack
Zach is 12 weeks and Barney (a cockerpoo) is 6 months. Barney is such a push over it makes it easy for Zach to bully him. It might be play but Zach always seems to go for his neck as if he's caught some prey. Barney hardly fights back not even when Zach goes for his food or toys. It takes about a minute before Barney yelps and I have to step in. Zachs teeth are needle sharp so i dont want him to be to rough as i know what its like to be on the recieving end lol
Stormy
A video will help skye used to play with a cocker spaniel all the time... and yes she did bully her slightly as she was alot smaller than her but i never had to worry about her hurting her
ZachAttack
Sorry for the late reply. Since this topic was written Zach has made a new friend (female staffy) who he doesnt mess with quite as much. I think maybe the other dog (poodle cross) being so submissive didnt help
