CARRINGTON
Balto is 11 months and he doesn't nip but when we pet him he wants to play and puts his mouth on your doesn't bite down or anything. He is corrected, but is he a little old to be doing this? We put him on a leash and ignore him but he has started when we say no and go to put him on the leash he runs so we just get up and ignore him which works for a few minites and it seems that every time we pet him no matter what that he turns that into time to play. Is there anything else we can do or just keep at it? We would kind of like to stop this before baby gets here in December. Also note: we will NOT be rolling our dog or towering over him. Elyse
Mine is 8 years old, and he still 'mouths' sometimes. Mostly its to get your attention for something - lol. He rarely plays anymore - the grouchy old grump!

Juno
Yea Juno mouths as well, and she's over a year. Cato does as well, a lot more gentle though, but still mouthy. They are just a breed that prefer to play with their mouths, as do wolves :
Jay
I sometimes can't help but think Nikko and Balto were separated at birth Lol. Yeah he's a nut. He has so much in common with a lot of other huskies on here...like Chula and Luka and Ares. If the 5 of them ever met all hell would break loose!! Chula
Chula is still mouthy too. I was hoping it would stop but it sounds like it won't. I don't let her mouth at all for now since she sometimes will still try to chew on my hand. The biggest problem is when she tries to mouth friends or family who get frightened by it and pull their hand away and get scraped by her teeth. Stormy
Shadow does it in play but won't put pressure on this is why it's always good to teach bite inhibition
Emma
Ice still does it when he gets excited too. Sometimes he grabs my nose, much to the amusement of my so-called family, lol.
Val (Zebedee)
Kaviq does this in play & he is 2 1/2 yrs old, but he knows when to stop with the pressure. It is only with my son now as we have taught him who it is & who it is not acceptable to mouth.
CARRINGTON
Shadow does it in play but won't put pressure on this is why it's always good to teach bite inhibition Balto doesn't put any pressure he just puts his mouth there and then removes it and does something kind of like a summer salt and continues to want to play. CARRINGTON
Breed trait. Yes I know this my question wasn't asking so much that as is he too old and if not what else to do to try to stop it, which thanks to other replies seems like we are doing all we can and will continue at it

robke
Both mine still do it when they want extra attention or just to play...
Stormy
Don't think there is an age on it its just something they do and they certainly know the difference between me and each other as I've got my hand in the way of them two playing before and they definitely put more pressure on each other than when playing with me lol
BingBlaze n Skyla
I've heard its just something huskies do to either hold your hand or just get some attention
mydiamond
Diamond still does this too and he's just turned 4. I don't know if correcting will do any good since that's just breed trait? but I'm sure it won't lead to nipping
BlueWolf
Wodak is 6 and does that. He doesn't put pressure on it so it doesn't bother me, he does it with the other dogs as well anyway
