Short answer:

It can be out of dominance. They may have smelled a female in heat nearby, and are testing each other for dominance. 
Or, it could be out of play. Some dogs (like mine) sometimes hump to get a reaction from the dog, hopefully a good playful reaction. As someone once told me, its like teenage boys playfully jostling and punching each other on the street, sort of a rough and different kind of play.

Darwin is always trying to hump Echo. . . . sigh

Poor lad is seriously taking his life in his hands.

 

Echo looks around as if to say. . . Really ???!!!!

Lol, mine love to take turns on each other, looks like a blue movie in my house sometimes. Seriously though, if they've only just started doing it then I'd say the fact that Skye's in heat will likely come in to it somewhere. Too much of a coincidence. Poor Kimba!!!
