Emma
Hello everyone! Miska's been a bit quiet recently as she's having a few problems trying to locate her next destination. Think her map reading skills leave a lot to be desired, lol. She's asked her friend Storm if he could take over for a while until she's back on the road and he jumped at the chance to go globe trotting!.........his first stop will be in the netherlands, photo's to follow soon,so don't forget to keep looking out for updates! BlueWolf
So there he was. All on his own in one of the biggest airports in the world, Schiphol in the Netherlands. Storm was his name and he took on Miska's request to fall in for her while she was figuring out where she was herself. Storm loved the idea of travelling around the world so he gladly decided to help Miska out but now that he finally arrived he wasn't quite so sure any more about what to do. What direction should he go? Everyone around him seemed too busy to ask. And it's all so big... Storm decided to wander of and see what he could make of it. Mmh, he thought as he looked around him. There didn't appear to be much nearby. And thus he continued on on is little adventure across big fields and small ditches. Well, this isn't really going anywhere, he thought. No matter where he looked, the horizon was as flat as a pancake! He wasn't even started yet and it looked like he already got himself lost! What would Miska think of him now? But suddenly out of nowhere I car appeared. It stopped right in front of Storm and the passenger door opened... Maybe it wasn't looking so bad after all! BlueWolf
So now that Storm finally found his way over here, let me do a proper introduction. Meet Storm! He is our current travelling husky for the moment, taking on the job of Miska. Since he just had a very long journey behind him he of course needed a bit of a rest. What better place to do that on... a cat? Semafoor wasn't too impressed. Neither was Storm. Storm will be here for a couple of weeks but I think he already found his favourite spot for when he's not touring around So after having met our cats the second part is obviously meeting the huskies. After initially trying to eat Storm, Wodak eventually decided it was probably better to just accept that for just this brief moment, the pack consisted of four huskies. After a quick sniff from Dana even she was fine with him. I turned out that Storm loves playing with other dogs. Sadly he was mostly ignored by the others But luckily there is always Wodak to protect our little Storm

BlueWolf
Storm had a quick meet and greet with some some of the goats at school Most loved Storm, and Storm loved them too. (Although at one point he was afraid that some goats thought he was a snack, not just a dog) And others were a bit... sceptical of Storm, lol. At the end of the round when Storm was about to leave the entire stable was following him around, lol. Think he left quite an impression didn't he? I also opted to let Storm meet the reptiles but he wasn't really fond of meeting a snake or one of the many hissing cockroaches we have up close

BlueWolf
Storm had a quick tour around parts of Noord-Holland today. There are many dikes around here, most made many years ago. Most of Noord-Holland used to be just sea. Using dikes they managed to drain huge areas. Majority of Noord-Holland in fact still lies a couple of meters below the sea level and is sort of kept dry with the help of the dunes, dikes and windmills. My home is located at the height of -2 meter This particular dike is 126km/78miles and is now sort of in the middle of nowhere. Interesting are the odd corners in this one. This is where dike breaches happened. They built 'around' it to fix it so now we have a long wobbly dike (Sticking just your finder in the dike isn't going to cut it here!) But suddenly Storm found something odd. What is all that colourful meadow over there? He went higher to have a better look. Tulips! Hundreds... No, thousands of tulips! They definitely weren't there a couple of weeks ago when he was lost in here. Suddenly they're everywhere, and in every possible colour! Back home in the middle of Alkmaar there are these windmills. Built around 1630, around 4 of them in a row (with a previous 5th one that never got rebuilt after it got destroyed during WWII). Windmills can be built for a great variation of work, but these were originally built to control the water levels in the polder next to it and are still doing their job this very day. Although most windmills are being replaced by modern technology, nowadays they're sort of mini museums that are still being maintained for their novelty. I should point out that these windmills aren't just windmills, they're also just homes where people still live in. I was essentially just photographing their home but I guess they're used to that by now Can you imagine going out of this door and having forgotten about the current orientation of the wings and the fact that it's turning? When someone is stupid you say they have a screw loose in them. We say they got hit by the windmill By placing or removing sails on the blades they can turn the windmill on or off. And that definitely has to happen when there is too much wind! These old windmills are prone to catch fire to due to friction and it's not unheard of that one gets completely burn down by a fire, especially since they're usually built out of mostly wood. You can actually visit most of the windmills when they're turning. Sadly they weren't on today.

Bambi92
Ooo tulips are my favorite flower!!!. If this sounds like a stupid question I'm sorry lol How does the windmill control the water levels? I never understood how that work lol Looks like Storm is having a great time! BlueWolf
Brought Storm with me to work in the shelter. I have a feeling he's not really in his comfort zone right now I kept telling him this is the safest place for him to be. The dogs probably wouldn't be as kind to him as these cats

BlueWolf
It looks like I've run out of time with Storm. I'll be bringing him back to England this Thursday and thus his journey in the Netherlands will end here. I'd love to go and show the old historical city of Alkmaar but I haven't found the time for it sadly. I may just post some photos + history of it at a later time. I will however attempt to record Storm's story back to England and throughout huskycamp
