Elyse
So about a week ago my Macbook Pro died; the logic board or graphics card failed. It was 7 years old. Took it to a few repair shops, and it wasn't worth to fix it. So I backed everything up, and prepared myself mentally, emotionally, and financially to get another one. Getting a PC/non-Mac laptop was not an option; I had fallen in love with Apple's products. Unfortunately for me, the new Macbook Pros were released that same day. This would have been a good thing except for one main problem: They were backordered: the waiting time was approximately 3 weeks. I needed a new one ASAP, as I use it for school. I could not wait for minimum 3 weeks, I have numerous essays, exams, presentations and other things coming up where I need my laptop. So, I picked up an early 2013 model...which is still a million times better than my old one, even though it is no longer considered 'cutting edge'. Specs first, pictures after. New one: OS X Mavericks (10.9) + Windows 7 via Bootcamp 2.3 Ghz Intel QuadCore i7 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM Intel HD Graphics 4000 (integrated) card + Nvidia Geforce GT 650M 500 GB HDD Old one (for comparison) : OS X Lion (10.7) + Windows XP via Bootcamp 2.3 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR2 RAM ATI Radeon 1600M 500 GB HDD The 2013 model originally came with 4GB of RAM. I wanted to upgrade it myself to save like $100 in installation charges, but they said (and I confirmed with Apple) that it would void my warranty. So boo. New vs old comparison. The only thing I don't like about my new one: the glossy screen. I can get used to the (IMO) ugly black keyboard, but the glossy screen is already annoying me. Looking for covers that will remedy this; anyone have any suggestions for anti-glare laptop screen covers? More pictures of the new one. I love this thing, it is a million times better than my old one. Though I still miss it, I'm happy for the substantial increase in speed. I, fortunately or unfortunately, am no longer able to cook an egg on my laptop anymore (yes, it got THAT hot) as the new one barely gets warm. Kinda sucks when you have a cold (student dorm) room, and you need a handwarmer....but whatever.
