BlueWolf
Last Friday was my last day as an intern at the animal shelter. I've been working there full time for the past 10 weeks. Learned valuable lessons, met great people and worked with lots of dogs. I felt really part of the team and they made me feel like I really contributed to the shelter. Not every dog initially liked me (I still have teeth marks of one of them in my pants!) but eventually I got along with every single one of them. I often got tasks that others didn't dare or weren't allowed to do except for a select few of people. It's a shame that such beautiful time now has come to an end as I have to continue with my college that starts tomorrow again. I wish I could've stayed there forever... It's two days later now and I miss every single dog. I will definitely revisit them at some point, but I really hope that all the dogs that are currently there will be having a nice and warm home at that point. But it kind of makes my eyes watery thinking that I will probably never see any of the dogs again that I worked with in the last 10 weeks. The good thing is that I still have all the pictures and plenty of new experience that I can definitely use in the future. Here's a summary of photos of my work at the shelter. Despite being in the shelter, all the dogs were always so happy to see me. Some dogs, like this one, were part of the pension. So luckily he already has a home. And of course there is Willem the puppy (Which tries to eat my ear somehow) Didi, the happiest dog I've met that shouldn't be living in a shelter! Nara. Visible not a fan of my camera Bulldozer Jimmy. At my last day I asked someone to take some photos of me while I was working with the dogs as I didn't really had many featuring myself in it. Jimmy again. One of the dogs that you have to know before handling as he's a jumper and leash biter Making them sit before handling them their food Of course this also includes giving fusses to them. And the last thing of the day is giving out some treats to the dogs. So now it's really over then I guess... Next up: Internship at a wolf conservation starting in April! BlueWolf
I remember you posted about a difficult dog you were working with jos, the one that would run to the back away from you ? Just wondered how he was doing ? He started a great new life at Dierenthuis. He's been there fore two weeks now and I get nothing but good messages about him from there. Since he doesn't have to live a life locked in a kennel any more and can go wherever he likes with no pressure from the humans, he's a totally different dog now. In fact, he's now much more comfortable with humans. My mother went to Dierenthuis do to voluntary work and made some pics of him and his new life for me There is a HUGE outside garden available for him yet he chooses to be around people most of the time as long as no one pets him, lol. Mike101
It's great news about that "difficult" dog. Can you work at the shelter just at weekends? or will the amount of college work not allow you to?
BlueWolf
It's great news about that "difficult" dog. Can you work at the shelter just at weekends? or will the amount of college work not allow you to? I could but in the weekends they only work in the mornings, so less time to work with the dogs. And besides, I have a job on Saturday so I can at least get some income (for the car mostly). Working at the shelter is entirely voluntarily work. Sunday is my only day I have nothing and I'd like to keep it like that.
