Vacation Time

  1. 1. Take the 78 hours of vacation and think nothing of it.

  2. 2. Take my earned vacation of 44 hours and tell payroll.

  3. 3. Take my earned vacation of 44 hours and don't tell payroll.

Here is the scenario:

It's getting late in the year and you have some vacation time to take. If you don't use it by the end of the year, you lose it. You check your last pay stub and it says you have 78 hours of vacation left. But you know that cannot be correct. So you go through all your time sheets for the year to verify. Sure enough, payroll missed 34hours you took in late summer and early fall, spread out over several weeks.

So here are the questions:

1. Do you go ahead and plan on taking the 78 hours, even though you know you are only deserving of 44 hours?

OR

2. Do you inform payroll of the discrepancy and just take what you deserve - 44 hours?

OR

3. Do you simply take the vacation time you know is correct, and do not inform payroll of their error?

I would do #2, just because I know what its like to run a business (from my Dad) and when employees take advantage of an error it REALLY sucks. :(
But, it sucks even more for the employee when they are caught (Dad does bi-monthly rechecks on all their hours and vacation time). If they are caught...well...bye-bye. He doesn't put up with liars in his office, he's learned the hard way.

But I know most people would probably do #1 or #3...
