Christmas Visitor

I hope this is ok to post here, if not, please remove admin?

I won't mention which rescue but I read a post on Facebook the other day.

A 6yr old Husky male was going to be PTS in the pound. His 7 days were up & a rescue who'd promised him help had let him down :(

As I'm off for 10 days over Christmas, I couldn't see this gorgeous lad PTS so said, if a rescue would take him on, I'd emergency foster him to buy him some time while they found a foster or forever home

A rescue stepped up & said that's a great offer, WE will take him as ours if you can foster :D

I'M NOT asking anyone on here to take him, this is just to show you my Christmas visitor, perhaps someone might even recognise him? He was in a pound in Worcester. Chip says 'Sky' but pound said 'Zephyr', he doesn't really answer to either.

He's very thin and his coat is matted. He also stank to high heaven, we had to bath him. He lay & let my friend Deb brush him & bless him, he had matted fur with an open sore on his haunches (Deb pointing in one pic)

He knows basic sit, lie, paw. Not phased by cars, buses, kids or other dogs so far :)

Just wanted to share pics of him, he's a stunner      Shame I can't keep him, already 3 dogs over what I should have lol

Anyway, meet Zephyr, my Christmas Husky foster, I hope next year brings him luck & a new home with a loving family :lovebone:

What a nice thing to do Brian....he is a good looking lad...

Cheers Rob, I can't normally foster as I work full time etc but I couldn't see a perfectly healthy dog PTS for no good reason :( not when I have 10 days holiday

It's only temporary, I do think at some point he HAS been cared for. I doubt he's 6, more like 3

His teeth are brilliant white so he's had a good diet & the fact he knows basic commands tells me someone spent some time with him?

Someone somewhere might actually be missing him but then again, they should have kept his chip details up to date as they can't contact his owners from the details :(

Hi there Brian. He is absolutely gorgeous! Looks like he's made himself at home at your place, think its great that you've taken him on as a foster, thank you for sharing your story so far with us. :)

You 100% sure you're not going to adopt him if his owners cant be traced/new home found? Must be very tempting!

Fabulous looking boy, but for some reason in those pictures I see a dog who's just waiting for Dad to come get him. I hope someone recognizes him and he gets to go home again, if not I pray that someone steps up and gives this boy a home.

Al, he's only been here since 3pm yesterday so still settling in but I know what you mean. He's a really good dog, it breaks my heart :cry1: :cry1:

4 dogs & I'm allowed ONE, 5 is out of the question, I would LOVE to keep him, he's melted my heart, real babe :(

Just want what's best for him. For some reason, he was whining & wagging his tail when he saw a Staffy earlier, maybe lived with one or friends? Who knows, wish he could talk

Well, if you've got four already then no one can tell the difference between four and five - you can keep, I'll let you (unless you want to send him 'cross the pond)

What a lovely boy he is. Well done Brian. Pity he looks so sad in the pics. Who knows what he has been through :(

Gary.

So I'm not the only one who sees "sad and lonely" in those eyes ... ???

I agree Al, he does look sad but he hardly knows me or my pack. He gets on well with them all but as for me, trust is earned.

I don't know his story, I will have to show him he can trust me and Ive been trying and succeeding today. He's brighter than he was yesterday, has been playing with my pack and has presented himself for fusses.

Slow and steady wins the race ;)

That wasn't a criticism of you Brian ... he just looks, to me, like a dog who's looking for his owner and doesn't understand why Daddy's not here. Glad to hear that he's perking up ... he deserves a good Christmas. And a good one to you for a task well done!! Thank you mate!

No, I agree. He just lay around all night last night like 'where am I, why am I here'...

He's growled at me a few times when Ive approached him to stroke him yet other times he's bouncing around or presenting himself for fuss.

He IS confused and it's heartbreaking looking into his eyes. If he growls, I just back off and give him his space, trust as I said. All in his time, on his term, to a point.

Id love nothing more than his owners to claim him IF they REALLY want him (personally Id have kept chip details up to date!!)

Christmas morning brought me a lovely surprise and a brilliant development

Last night, I decided to allow Zephyr on my bed with me with Mishka.Over the course of the night he was on/off the bed, probably too warm.

I woke up this morning to Zephyr cuddled up next to me and when I opened my eyes, was met with a KISS and allowed to give him cuddles!

The trust is building

still grumbles if he's not happy but I just ignore it and leave him, seems to be working

Some updated pics.

He's been a challenge, he growls & grumbles if he doesn't want to do something so I've used distraction etc to get the job done.

In your bed, growl, growl. Loves his lead so.... come on then, lead on, walk into lounge & lead him into crate, no problem.

Strange lad lol, he doesn't seem to know how to play either?! :(

Walked him around town, harness, loose lead but close & away from people so he couldn't lunge at them.

Not bothered with kids or other dogs. Gets excited & wants to hump neutered dogs which is annoying but he still has his 'plums' so can't help that lol

As long as they tell him off, he backs down :)

Having walked past kids with no reaction, I met a friend & his kids for a walk to 'child' test him & he was great, same with my friend's little dogs :)

Anyway, here's some more pics

Took him and my girls on a 5.2 mile round trip to Pensarn yesterday & he walked lovely, I'm uploading a couple of videos & will post them up later.

I've been raw feeding him, he's very thin as you can see from a couple of the pictures but no food aggression, will happily eat alongside the others.

Zeph borrowed Tango's orange harness for yesterday's walk & quite happily went in the river for a cool off with Mishka :)

I reckon he's been a woman's dog as he loves women ;)
