Val (Zebedee)
On the dogs, I mean! lol Our foster dog appears to have dry, flaky skin resembling dandruff, mainly at the end of her body under her tail which almost permanently is flopped over her back. Besides shampoos for this type of skin, what else could I do to treat it? It doesn't bother her thankfully but I've never had this before. Any ideas & remedies welcome
Emma
I mentioned this yesterday about itching but I think this might be relevant to you too. I've pasted a link for you on natural remedies, mainly oatmeal and baking soda. Hope it's of use to you. http://dogcare.dailypuppy.com/homemade-oatmeal-baking-soda-bath-dogs-2456.html
Val (Zebedee)
this bit is relevant, Emma, it can only be worth a try - Starches in oats make them retain water and form a protective barrier on the skin, which helps relieve dryness. Better buy some oatmeal & baking soda
Emma
Good luck. The only downside I could see is that it's going to get very messy! Can't see oats going down the plug hole, i can see the baths going to need a good clean afterwards!
Jase
Calendula tea is meant to be excellent for this as well as itching or redness. You can simply make the tea, add to a spray bottle and give him/her a good soak and massage into the skin and leave it in. Alternatively it can be used as a rinse after shampooing. You can get the tea from most health food shops.

VanIslandSibe
Id look into the food you are feeding her. When my boy was younger he got really dandruffy and I changed his food and it went away almost immediately. It seemed like it just wasnt right for him. I had to switch it a couple times actually. Huskies are weird, they need a lot of zinc and oils in their diet to keep up with rejuvenating all that fur and thick skin.
