Marc
Have done one of these threads before, however if I remember rightly I think we only had about a hundred members or so at the time (wow that seems crazy now lol). So here we are with over a thousand members and lots of people who can do lots of different things. IDEA OF THIS TOPIC If you needed someone to help you with a computer issue, you would generally come to me as you know I deal with computers on a daily bases. Did you know Davidjk is also pretty clued up in these areas?? (sorry david, your bein used as an example lol). Some of you may have, but most wont. So the topic is to simply put down the expertise that we have in different areas. Over the christmas period there have been people on here making leashes, toy huskies, candles, calenders and all sorts of things, but they are spread all around the forum. Some of them known to all, and some of them not so well known. You may need a birthday present from someone, or some accounting advice, or your computer is playing up. Te possibilities with this many people are endless and regardless of what your skills are, you may find it is of some use to others, and likewise someone elses may be of use to you. So come on guys, lets get a list going of skills we all have and see what we can find out about each other. Depending how big the thread/topic gets I may update this main post with the list for easy access --------------------------------------------- So I suppose I'd better start, please remember it doesnt matter if you dont know what Im talkin about below. Most wont, however if its usefull to someone the chances are that person will know what they are looking for:- Websites - I guess this states the obvious with doing this place, but I suppose I'd better add it here anyways LOL Computers general - I can build, fix, modify computers so can help in pretty much any of these areas Coding - I currently write in visual basic 6 and VB.NET mainly, I am also extremely proficient in transact SQL (databases). I use crystal reports either standalone or integrated into applications for report creation. I also do a fair amount of html & CSS for website design along with basic knowledge of the working of PHP with mysql back end. Accounting - I am qualified as an accounting technician (yeah wierd mix I know), and specialise in UK personal taxation. I have done accounting at management accounts level from ledger to trial balance and balance sheet including asset management and the likes. Music production - I currently do quite a lot of music production using ableton live primarily. Very much into the progressive trance side of things working from initial production to post production and digital mastering of tracks. Mazz
Here's what I do: Technical Writer - Specifically operator and parts manuals for high-speed high-tech packaging machines. Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Acrobat are the primary products used. John Deere Garden Tractors - It's more of an interest, but I've been turning a wrench on those I've owned for 25 years. Chief Cook/Bottle Washer - Chicago Style Pizza, Prime Rib, Smoked Ribs, the list goes on. Of course, with all that there's the dishes. So I do those too. wasp
I do computers. All self-taught, started in the early to mid 90s. I've always been fascinated with electronics/mechanics. Not from an engineering perspective as I don't "love" math. I love fixing things. I work at a University and for several years I had IBM/Dell/HP/Apple hardware and software certs for doing repairs in house but now I supervise students who man our helpdesk. It bores me to death. After I conquered computers I taught myself how to work on cars and since then have rebuilt a several engines/transmissions (you name it) and work on cars constantly in my spare time for fun. I really enjoy performance, specifically forced induction (turbo charging). I also do lots of home repair type stuff too. Pretty much anything I can learn myself to keep from paying someone else to do is what I do. Finished my basement last spring. I LOVE hands-on work. I love building stuff and I love fixing stuff. Whatever it is, doesn't matter, I'll learn how to do it. And I really love my puppy. Since I got her I haven't done much at all but play with her! shedalot
I am an electrician with over 25 years of experience, mainly in industrial work, but I've done a lot of construction (commercial-industrial) as well as service work, including parking lot lighting and other bucket truck work, to laying pipe in trenches and all kinds of stuff in between. I've been doing this since high school and presently work for a manufacturing facility now as a maintenance electrician. For the past year or so, I have come a long way learning database design using mysql and phpmyadmin. (this after becoming quite proficient with Microsoft Access, but got sick of different versions not working well among my computer at home and my computer at work) It has helped me tremendously with my website. Behind the scenes on my site, I keep track of everything, from finances, to stuff at work, yada yada yada. (I like that stuff) Recently, I've learned just enough php to be able to add/edit/delete records right from my site, without having to access the databases at all. It's amazing what we can do today. I also enjoy playing drums, although I've never had a set. Cooking is something I do very well and I enjoy it very much. 95% of what I eat, I make myself.
