Nava's Mommy
Nava has had bad diarrhea for the past three days, I finally decided that we needed to go to the vet. She ended up having a bacteria and worms, but that was the least of my problems. She most likely is blind. We have an appointment for the eye specialist July 11th to find out exactly what is going on. I am very nervous, and not sure what to do differently. Any advice? Removed #5
Nery, while it might not be any consolation to you, what's the expression "Stuff happens" and dog have all kinds of bugs and stuff. The odd part of this is that dogs who are blind normally function almost as well as those who can see. While sight is, probably, the sense we depend on most, dogs depend more on their senses of smell and to a lesser degree of hearing. I think many of us would have waited to take our pups to the vet because of diarrhoea; we just don't normally think of it as being that bad untill it gets to be a couple of days or more. We assume it's something they ate or a change in something and, with some TLC, wait for it to clear up. Don't think you did anything wrong, as I said at the start of this "Stuff happens".... Hope everything else clears up for you and her and then you can see how things stand.

wesburwj
Awww NO!! is Nava a rescue dog? shelter didn't have health document of her? eye problem is a very common genetic defect of Huskies, likely originated from genetic related parents. Let's see what the doctors can do, keep us updated, meanwhile be strong

I did a bit of research and I found out that she can be very close to "normal" since they do depend on their sense of smell so much. You are very right stuff do happen and I just have to make the best out of this situation and be their for Nava. So sorry to read this, I wish you all the very best. Thank you ! No one was planing on this litter.

LightningStruck
I'm awfully sorry for both you and Nava. Please keep us updated. Had she shown any signs of blindness before you took her in? Maybe dog blindness is somewhat like people blindness and being legally blind and completely blind are two different things. I am sure that would still be a challenge, but maybe if she can atleast see shapes it will help her a bit. Thinking of you. mydiamond
There was a member long time ago who brought home a young puppy like Nava and believed the dog was blind. Then not long after they found out he had perfect sight. Hopefully that's what happens this time, too. That being said, blind dogs can function normally just like any other dog. Wishing for a speedy recovery x
BingBlaze n Skyla
Let her parents know so they can potentially warn the other pups owners too , hope shes OK , I agree with al blind dogs can live very full lives they get to know their surroundings and what is where so they can avoid it , it can mean never moving furniture around etc but she will be fine regardless :-) good luck

loudlucky
That's not something you would ever want to hear good luck to you and Nava, hope you find out what's wrong and can enjoy your future together
Emma
Can she see anything at all? The reason I ask is because as she's only 4/5 weeks old her eyesight wouldn't have developed properly yet (pups are born blind) she should however be able to see something. 4/5 weeks of age roughly is when there should be a surge in eye development but possibly not being with her mum could cause a slight delay in her development? I don't however want to give you false hope as there is still a fair chance that she could remain blind, in which case like said she can still live a full and happy life. Best advise I can think of is not to rearrange the furniture too much so she is familiar with her environment. Good luck with the eye specialist. xxx

After they told me she might be blind, a lot of the things she does made so much more sense. Thank you all for your kind words and information I will definitely keep you all updated. I am going to try to do everything possible for my little Nava <
Emma
With a little help from our admin staff (ok ok, with a lot of help! Lol). I have got a link to a thread of someone who was in pretty much the same situation as yourself. In this thread the outcome was positive but I can't promise you that this will be the same for you, no matter how much I wish I could. Take care and please let us know the outcome of the eye specialists. We'll help support you as best we can whatever way the apple falls. xxx

I bought my pup from a friend, but my boyfriend and I were talking.. things happen for a reason I don't feel like she was getting the best care possible at their house. Either way we are going to keep her, and do what we can to make her a happy pup. Hoping for good news on the 11th since she will be about 7 weeks. Again, Thank you so much. Nava's Mommy
UPDATE: A lot of my friends and family have been telling me that they don't think she's blind. Originally she had an appointment with a specialist the 11th, but i'v decided to wait till the 22nd which is when she has an appointment for her shots. Just to get the opinion of a different vet. Is this a god idea ?
