Jay
I was looking at the news and came across this editorial on CNN that I thought was entertaining. Also, I had no idea that Scotland was going to vote to secede from the U.K. http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/12/opinion/wheeler-scotland-referendum/index.html?hpt=hp_c2 So, what do ya say? I vote yes! Emma
Lol. Yeah they're having a vote whether to separate from the uk or not. Last I heard the public opinion was pretty evenly divided so I guess it'll be a close call.

Elyse
LOL If I was in the US...I would vote 'yes' too. But, is it true the U.K has a two-tiered heath system? Free health care, and private health care...where private is faster, and you receive better care? If so, that's awesome...

You can get health insurance which will pay for you to be treated quickly but often this will be done in an NHS hospital by the same staff - you just get to queue jump. You may get drugs/treatment that are deemed too expensive for the NHS.

(A person with life threatening injuries is seen and treated faster, than say, a person with a broken arm)
NOBELHOWLUC49
The uk system is the best.. not perfect but we don't stop treating a patient just cause there cover does not cover.. And My cousins live in Scotland.. I just hope the vote is fair and nobody loses out..
qweasd
Oh, I see. Does it still follow the triage system, though? (A person with life threatening injuries is seen and treated faster, than say, a person with a broken arm) If you are diagnosed with something immediately life-threatening, you will get treated on the NHS. Depending on how much you pay for private care, you can get diagnosed and treated privately or diagnosed on the NHS and then treated privately. sarahjng
Oh, I see. Does it still follow the triage system, though? (A person with life threatening injuries is seen and treated faster, than say, a person with a broken arm) If you go to casualty ( accident and emergency) it's a triage system, if your sent to see a consultant by your Doctor ( a specialist) then you can go private and pay, but it's not cheap !. As for Scotland splitting away, perhaps if we sever financial ties there will be some equality for students, at the moment uk students who study in the UK or Scotland pay for uni, Scottish ones don't, even if they come to london it's free, how is that fair ? Elyse
That's interesting. I've been doing research into a two-tiered system...it seems to be excellent. I want Canada to have a two-tiered system. Even though our health care is free over here, its slow and has its faults. And what!? Students from Scotland don't have to pay tuition!? Why? qweasd
Some power has been devolved from the UK parliament to a Scottish parliament. The Scottish have decided to have free university education for their students. They also offer this to other European Union students. They are allowed to charge students from the rest of the UK as it is the same EU state and EU law allows them to discriminate. It is currently being argued whether Scotland becoming independent would mean they had to give UK students free tuition - they don't want to as it would probably flood the Scottish universities with UK students. NotTheDogWhisperer
Just hope that the Scots know what they're doing. If they want to leave then we should just wish them the best of luck. Instead, we (or our politicians I should say) have been trying to dissuade them from leaving. As with relationships, if you try to stop someone from leaving it will only fuel their desire to leave. We should just say 'alright you guys do what you want'....BUT if you leave you will have to deal with this, this and this (I can't recall the issues that would arise if they did gain independence but apparently there are many). Expressing little interest or indeed going so far as goading a person (or country in this case) in leaving will instill a sense or uncertainty in them and make them question their decision. If Westminster truly wants the Scots to stay (I believe they want them to stay for reasons other than simply keeping the UK together) then they're going about it the wrong way. Salmond is absolutely right in saying that the PMs recent visit to Scotland will fuel the 'yes' vote. That's what I think anyway. I think it would be sad for Scotland to leave, but I also believe that every nation should have the right of self-determination. Best of luck to the Scots either way. NOBELHOWLUC49
I heard the Royal bank of Scotland will move their Head office out of Scotland if they separate from England... and some other banks to. Is this true ????
stormchaser09
it is a bit of a tricky one and I have no clue what to do personally, but most of us up here feel a bit like the poor relations that no-one wants to speak to. I know it's not political but several times I had to turn off coverage of the Commonwealth games due to the totally biased coverage by the presenters. At times Scottish atheletes were barely mentioned even when doing really well and it's stuff like that that upsets people. Also the mp's in Westminster have a bit of a habit of using us to test new taxes e.g we had poll tax before the rest of the UK and the 'bedroom tax'

Is this true ???? They have said they will do so. http://www.rbs.com/news/2014/09/statement-in-response-to-press-speculation-on-re-domicile.html They also have to sell a lot of their existing business as part of the bail out they received. This is being done by separating off Williams & Glyn's Bank which is a bank they bought some time ago. I believe that this is a company based in England/Wales. http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk/

Dunc
I think they will vote no with a lot bigger margin than is being spouted right now. Do I want them to go I don't really know both Scotland and Wales are massively subsided by the English and for that reason yeah sod off save us some ££££ but my heart says they should stay part of the UK
