Andy
My White GSD Echo sometimes cuts her head when chasing her ball into bushes. She so fanatic about getting to it she gouges herself on the branches getting to the ball.

Jay
I'm also thinking she's sticking her head in a fence opening or some bushes

Chula
I'm a little worried as it doesn't seem to be improving, but she seems totally unaware and unaffected. I hate seeing her pretty face marred with cuts and hairless patches!
mydiamond
Ouch Chula, you really like giving mommy a heart attack don't you!
NotTheDogWhisperer
Just a thought, are those definitely cuts? Or could it possibly be mange? I'm no expert, but I think one of the characteristics of mange are sore, red patches.
Chula
I considered that...but wouldn't that spread to other parts? She's had some other spots throughout the summer that seem to stem from insect bites, but cleared up after a round of steroids. I think the one on her snout is definitely a cut because it showed up out of nowhere. I've stopped washing it and putting ointment on it and it looks a little better this afternoon. I wonder if I was making it worse by trying to keep it clean and not infected.
NotTheDogWhisperer
It depends on the type of mange..from what I've read on 'localized demodectic mange', only a few patches appear and will most likely not spread. If Chula's been scratching her head a lot lately then that's a sign that it's mange as opposed to cuts. Mange can appear as a result of mites causing irritation. There's quite a bit on it on google. Probably worth a read...if in doubt, a trip to the vet wouldn't go amiss. There's some info on it here: http://www.wikihow.com/Identify-Mange-on-Dogs
Chula
She's not scratching her head so I guess that's a good sign. I will keep an eye on it this week if I see it's not getting better I'll bring her in. But seriously this dog needs a punch card at the vet she's always got something going on.
