Hello From Manchester

Lobo2013

Recommended Posts

Hi there,
my name is Jane and I have a Husky called Lobo. He will be 2 in October.
Glad to find this forum.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a tip/idea as in where to go for a nice long walk?
Are there any doggy parks in Manchester? Fenced in and secure? Or do they not exist in the UK? I couldn't find any on the internet but was hoping that some of you guys might know a park like that?
We just moved over from Ireland and are already missing the sea ;-)
So if anybody has some tips for us or would like to meet up at some stage, it will be highly appreciated.

Greetings from Jane and Lobo

Welcome We have A LOT of members in the greater Manchester area.

I'm sure someone will recommend a suitable place to walk

Hi Jane,

Welcome to the forum - I am sure that you will find this site to be an excellent repository of Husky knowledge and there are some great members too!

I believe that there are a few large, (and secure), 'dog runs' located within the UK but they are few and far between unfortunately.

We were very lucky as we approached the 'Dogs Trust' and asked if we could use one of their training pens, (every couple of months), and we were able to let all of our dogs off, together, where they could run free and play without the restrictions of a normal sized garden - we were never charged for this facility so we made a donation each time we went!

I must add, however, that we did provide one of their dogs a new home and I was a tad cheeky when we collected her when I asked if we could use one of their exercise runs every now and again!

It is certainly worth trying - I also volunteered the services of our two Husky's for 'socialisation' exercises but I was never taken up on this offer!

I am sure that somebody will pop up and provide you with a little more information relating to your particular neck of the woods!

Welcome to the pack.

Hi,
thanks for welcoming us to your pack  :-)
I'm only here a couple of days so I am pretty sure I will find some places. Just asked in case some of you know great places. Happy for any advice/ideas/tips  :-)

Will be checking out some doggy day cares here too. Pretty sure Lobo is missing hanging out with his friends.

Hi, Jane & Lobo, welcome on board

Depends on whereabouts you are in Manchester - there is Heaton Park (just off Junc 19 of the M60) or Chorlton and Sale Water Parks (off Junc 5 of the M60) or you can go out Rochdale way on the moors. Further along the M62 towards Leeds you have lots of reservoirs that you can walk aropund, Hollingworth Lake is lovely. As for off lead areas, maybe our Manchester based members know of somewhere. As has been said, they are few & far between. I know there is one in St Helens, maybe 1/2 hr from Manchester that used to be bowling greens but is now a dog park. Some people go to their local equestrian centre and hire a secure area (indoor or outdoor) for an hour a week to let the dogs run safely but I've not heard of one in that area yet.

Hi,

I'm in Hulme. Went to Chorlton and Sale Water Parks already. Lobo likes swimming in the river in Chorlton Water Park. Like both parks, we are just not use to not having doggy parks but we'll manage  ;-)
thanks for all your tips and help!! very much appreciated!
