mydiamond
Sometimes I can be so without knowing it, so thought I'd ask for people's opinions. I've just received a notification e-mail saying that during Thanksgiving the dining halls will be closed and there will be no buses operating. Translation: international students will have to choose between being grounded, or staying elsewhere fun. So, I started Googling cool places in Michigan I can explore. I then settle on Grand Rapids because it's not too faraway, and still has a lot to offer. The only detail that would make this trip sound reckless is: I would be traveling solo, and staying for two nights. Just me, myself and I. So... how crazy am I being? I also plan to travel alone like this during winter break, so if people think I should be okay, I may or may not travel farther

Bambi92
As long as you know some where safe to go or the nearest police station in case anything happens I'm sure you'll be fine just be aware of your surroundings and anyone suspicious following you. NOBELHOWLUC49
Awww as a mum I want to tuck you up in bed and make you stay at home.... But having a daughter of 19 who wants to see the world I think you are very brave. Just stay safe and let people know where your going and when. qweasd
Grand Rapids looks pretty safe to me - http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/mi/grand-rapids/crime/. Stay in the touristy areas and be sensible who you interact with and you will be fine.
mydiamond
Booked everything! SQUEE! I don't plan to explore very far. After all, the hotel I'm staying in has a three-story tall indoor water slide :O wouldn't miss checking it out for the world! Right across the road from that hotel is a huge shopping mall, too. So, yeah, I probably would just go window-shopping on day one and go swimming on day two
