For example, most firmly believe that both dogs should have their eyes certified and their hips scored. This maximizes knowing the likelihood of either parent having a genetic issue with eyes or hips, is at a minimum, prior to breeding. Also, that both parents are at least two years of age, and no more than five years of age. That a five generation pedigree on each parent is in hand, been studied and checked for both desirable and undesirable genetic traits, and the decision to breed is made only after careful analysis. And that given all the dogs that are abandoned, abused, and end up in shelters, that breeding should not be done for the sake of letting a female have a litter of pups, but that breeding should be done to improve upon the breed. Also, need to be financially capable to cover the cost of a medical emergency during delivery. They do happen, and though the majority of births go on without issue, it is not uncommon for a breech to occur. Now, it may seem that I am being a bit harsh, but really I am not. For you see, there are many who will read this thread, and it is vitally important to all that give consideration to breeding, that they do so in a manner that does not add to the dilemma facing not only the Siberian Husky breed, but all breeds, and that is breeders who breed without giving consideration to what is in the best interest of the breed. You stated "all tips and advice taken". And from the context of your post, I am assuming you have not bred dogs before, and so this would be your first go. Here is my advice: Don't. Ask yourself these three, and be honest with your answers: 1. Why am I considering breeding? Is it to let your dog have the experience? Is it to make a few bucks? Why? 2. What happens if my female has a breech? Who do I call? What will it cost if surgery is necessary to save her life? 3. If someone who has one of my pups can no longer care and keep the pup, or does not want the pup any more, am I willing and able to take the pup back? EDIT: Just to underscore, most of us have probably acquired our dogs from either breeders or from shelters. Truth be known, most of the dogs we have, with we being the members, are simply pets that we love and enjoy. That does not make them well qualified to produce pups. My Zoya came from a very reputable breeder, who has all her dogs checked for hips and eyes, does the pedigree check, rotates her females. If I were to breed Zoya, and let her have a litter of pups, I would be what is called a backyard breeder. Not a monicker that entices me into breeding. And thus, Zoya is spayed. moonstar Posted March 28, 2015 Author Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 well read all above just to put peoples mind at rest both have check up every year when ALL jabs or done eyes good hips good both peds and i am def not doing it for money and just come of phone to get garage door atached to house changed so the whole garage is for her and door is being changed insted of up door having proper door and one large door with an inner door of mesh for air and electric man comin next week to look were cable goin for light and heater even thow it will be summer if she has them already got a breader on hand who is a friend to help bt do have a vet they are not babys but i call them my babys girl is four he is six and i promise you this is not a whim i have thought about this for yrs thay live in house never been in a crate only when puppy when i went out ,a breader told me that when she has pups she might be aggresive to him so thats why i thought large personal space hope this extra stuff helps ALL your advice and tips they are all welcome and yes i am aware of dogs and breeders in it for dosh and dont care about dogs that cant breath walk hear noses that are almost on the back of ther head and cant give birth i would not buy one beacuse it promotes the breading of above but i would not say no to a husky that did not blow its coat lol and why thay cant both shed at same time lol i will update when i can and beleve it are not i wil not give one to a friend that wants one because they are all heavy smokers in the house and you can cut the air with a knife so please dont think bad of me the deed is not done yet and why i am on this site to do the very best i can for my fluffy family Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The vets checking their teeth and heart etc each year when they have a booster is not enough - they need specialist checks hip and eye scores are paramount and can prevent so much heart ache When we set up this forum we had one plan in mind and it was this. You say you wouldn't buy from a backyard breeder, as you are aware those dogs have health problems, yet here you are considering breeding your two dogs. If you aren't going to breed for the betterment of the breed (which it sounds like you aren't. The 'betterment' of the breed refers to improving the dog's working drive for example and NOT breeding out any of its traits it is known for...like blowing its coat), and if you aren't a registered breeder with the U.K Kennel Club, then you would be considered a backyard breeder. They need to be checked out by eye and hip/joint professionals and be certified - this costs a lot of money. Not sure who certifies in the U.K, but over here it's CERF (eyes) and OFA (hips and other joints). Both dogs should have proven themselves in either the show ring or working (pulling sleds), and must have the proper temperament and physiology (dimensions, etc) as outlined in the U.K's Kennel Club's section on the Siberian Husky. Do you have any registered (with the U.K Kennel Club) and reputable husky breeders in your area? I would ask them questions...
