Shedding

Ok so I won't be needing the explanation here necessarily, Otto is 1 1/2 so I'm well aware that they shed, and shed, and it never ends.

I just moved in with my girlfriend and she's known Otto for a year now, but the hair is driving her nuts. She has two dogs, both hunting breeds with short coats. I'm wanting to know is it unhealthy or unsafe to brush our dogs daily? I know it seems as if the hair never stops coming off but Otto doesn't have a very thick coat as it is, and she is going nuts over brushing him daily. Any advice on this? I'm also welcome to advice on what you all do to keep the house clean other than sweep and destroy vacuums with husky hair:)

Yeah I think brushing every day is fine for them....it might help to get him groomed with a deshedding shampoo, and they can do extra brushing.  That always helped during coat blow season.

Other than that, just constantly vacuuming lol

I've had Chula professionally groomed once. I'm sure she hated it, but it did reduce her shedding for quite a few weeks afterwards.

Also, I'd invest in a good vacuum, if you haven't already. The difference is monumental.

I should probably take him to a groomer then, and get a better vacuum. Here's part two of our newfound problems: he's knocking over the trash can from time to time and getting everything out of it when we are both gone. He was crated at my house and he isn't anymore. He's been fine for the most part...do you think he just needs to be crated for his whole life or is his age combined with new freedom a bad phase, and if so how can I get it out of him

I have been walking him to the trash can, saying no, and making him leave. I went out last night and left him out and he was fine. Maybe that will help. I think also with time he will learn the rules of the house like my girlfriends dogs have.
