Shaiasaur
If anyone remembers me you may be reminded that I've been on this site for a very long time without owning a husky... But guess who has one now!!?? This girl! -Happy dance!!!- My pup, Arcanine (Arcie for short) is 3 months old. I will be getting him sometime after 5PM today. What should I do when I take him home? He needs a bath, he was kept outdoors and is a smelly baby. ): Should I wait later in the day to give him one and show the home first or would it be okay? I am going to show him where to potty, and associate him with the crate by giving him treats. I'm going to fill up a Kong with peanut butter and freeze it so he will be busy in his crate for a while. I'm putting it in my room, will it be okay that he sees me sleep and get up in the middle of the night? I will be waking him up every three/four hours for potty. Im going to keep the food bowl out in the open. Some people do not like that but I have too busy of a schedule to put him on a feeding schedule. If things prove that he needs to be put on a feeding schedule I will. I have three cats, I will slowly introduce. I will pet my cats and set them on my lap to show they're family. Phew, anything else?? Sorry if it's a lot! Here's a picture of my sweet boy.
BingBlaze n Skyla
I would give him a day or two to settle in before bathing him maybe wiping down with babywipes would be best for now He might need to go out more often then every 3 to 4 hours Why has he been kept outside? Even when my boy was in a kennel when he was born n grew up he wasn't dirty
Emma
Good luck with your first fur baby Shaylynn. A complete change of environment will be pretty stressful in itself so unless it's absolutely essential, I personally would wait until he's had a chance to settle in first. Let him explore things at his own pace and praise him enthusiastically if he toilets outside. I personally don't see a problem with having the crate in your room, as long as that's where you plan on having it normally. Remember to keep any potential choking hazards out of the way...I was forever picking up Lego off my son's floor as Ice would most likely have eaten it given half a chance. PaulG
some tips Move all breakables up to about 4 feet above ground, Hide all electricale cables for TV lamps etc also do not leave remotes for tv etc on couch pick a place for food water bowls. make sure all in house flow the lid down on the toilet LAW, Check for holes under fence/house, do a posionous plant check (i think there is a list on the forum some where). Limit treat giving, do not over walk its bad for joints later in life when training never finnish on a bad thing find something that pup is good at if they cant do a stay end with a sit and treat. after he has had all shots visit socialisation classes, can be espenive but its worth the cost.
